1. I'd like the women of DU to read the part entitled,
"A more appealing First Lady" and give me your opinion, please.

3. Choke!!
I doubt THK would appeal to reds, but that's because they see the D behind her name and shut out any positive thoughts about her immediatel. They didn't have anything against her when she was married to a Republican senator, did they?

As for too quirky etc. *Why* should the candidate have to be married to a stepford spouse? Why must the spouse be a Laura Bush? Do we want to compromise on this? Why would we want to become faux Republicans just to win? Conform to the talibornagains' view of the wife as completely subservient to her husband, and without her own opinions, smiling cheerfully 24/7 and being satisfied with doing charity work?

My prediction? If Bush is inaugurated again, he'll crash the US so bad the great Depression will look like a minor economic mishap. After that, you'll see democrats elected that'll have spouses as strong as Eleanor Roosevelt, and as quirky as THK, and no one will critize it

4. Thanks for your reply....when I read it, I was totally outraged
on behalf of women everywhere! Shall we be relegated to the background, baking cookies and doing charity work? Some of what is wrong with politics today is MEN's attitudes toward the role of what constitutes a "politically correct" politician's wife.

5. Amen!
I agree with you sooo much!

And the outrage the women of America shows when a a candidate's wife says it like it is, like Hillary Rodham Clinton's cookie comment, and THK's job comment, is equally galling, for it shows that women are buying into this mindset.
