4. NM is more Southwest than South, but we do have
Mark Warner (VA), Kathleen Blanco (LA), Phil Bredesen (TN), Mike Easley (NC). We have also held GA and redder-than-red AL in recent years. Plus, they only got rid of Jim Guy Tucker (AR) with their ginned-up Whitewater scandal. Not too shabby considering the drubbing our national candidates have been taking down there.

6. Wise is out in West Virginia, but we held the governor's seat
Wise decided not to seek re-election. I think there were scandals of some sort.

Manchin won huge for us on Tuesday, with something like 63 or 64%. West Virginia continues to disappoint, electing Democrats by wide margins for gov but abandoning our presidential choice. The party ID is still 50-32 in our favor according to exit polls, but 30% of Democrats voted for Bush, including 25% who described themselves as liberal.

12. Anyone else think that Bob Wise looks like the mailman from cheers?

If he ran with Ted Danson as his running mate, they could really go places.
