1. If the war's still going on...
...he'll be hammered on inexperience. He'd be another Edwards.

If we're somehow out of the mess in Iraq, and the focus is on the country itself, then maybe.

2. Too green...
And I don't think it's a good idea to run another senator. We need a governor.

7. Fuck the South
There I said it. I'm tired of us in the north having no problem voting for Southern democrats but too many yahoos in the south (and I know there are many who don't meet that description) cannot support a Northern Democrat. I say we go West for our electoral votes if the south still wants to act like the civil war is still on.

15. we need to work Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona
they are winnable and more winnable than Alabama, Missisippi, Georgia and South Carolina. I'm not advocating ignoring the south, but all this talk about always needing to nominate a southern candidate to win is stupid. It is time the south grew up and got out of their anti-Northern attitudes. We in the North could vote for Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Al Gore. Why can't they vote for a Northern Democrat? John Kerry was no George McGovern and a war hero to boot and had a young and attractive southerner as his running mate and still not one southern state could support him. There is a breakthrough coming though. Virginia will one day be a democratic state and will support a "Yankee". I also think that Florida will continue to be a battleground, but not as long as a Bush is governor.

I fail to see how it will elect a black man in four years.

9. Not enough experience
And maybe we should go back to governors. Ed Rendell, Mark Warner, and I saw Richarson's name. 1 Senator I might like to see run is Russ Feingold. He could appeal to midwesterners. Warner could win his home state Virginia, and maybe North Carolina, and probably Tennessee and perhaps Lousiana. He could also win states like Colorado, Arizona, and Nevada. We need a moderate Democrat in 2008, that is clear.

10. Warner
I keep telling myself there's no need to appease the south, but there really isn't any other way. I can't see the GOP making many gains in blue states in the next 4 years, not with what I expect from a Lame Duck Bush.

Warner might be the best possible choice. Doesn't thrill me. But might be quite electable, if he can take Iowa and South Carolina and be somewhat competitive in New Hampshire. Who knows.

Would be a great prez (socially liberal, fiscally moderate) but he would never get elected.

Richardson... I like him. he's a governor, too.

11. He would start campaigning in his 2nd or 3rd year in the Senate
People starting declaring their candidacies for 2004 in 2002, and even posturing themselves in 2001.

Obama is the future, 2008 is way too soon to use him.

12. The fuckers wouldn't vote for
a "Massachusetts Liberal".

What makes you think that they'll vote for a "darkie"? My belief that the majority of the country are stupid bastards has been validated.

18. AP article already speculating Obama might run
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=536&ncid=536&e=7&u=/ap/20041103/ap_on_el_pr/eln2008

<snip>

"Other Democrats who might run for the nomination in 2008 include Kerry himself, Sen. Evan Bayh (news, bio, voting record) of Indiana and Govs. Rod Blagojevich of Illinois and Tom Vilsack of Iowa. And, up and coming, the party's rising star, Barack Obama, of Illinois, who will be the only black member of the Senate when he is sworn in January. "

Seems like an Obama run isn't that far-fetched...
