3. Bush has a mandate now.
We are FUCKED!! I hope all those idiots who voted for Bush enjoy the draft, lower incomes, homelessness and terrorist attacks galore.

5. That's the bottom line; we're down nearly 3 million
It was always a pipe dream to win the presidency minus taking the popular vote. We actually came much closer to doing it than 51-48 should allow. That may close somewhat once California and the West is counted.

The final approval ratings put Bush's number at 49-52% and that's the percentage of the vote he is receiving, basically the epicenter. That's the one trend that has held up -- the incumbent's percentage mirrors his final approval rating. I'm telling you, if this election had been held a couple of weeks ago Kerry probably would have won. I have no idea why Bush's approval numbers drifted up in so many polls in the final week, but I noticed it and was concerned.

6. IIRC, we saw a similar situation in 2000
On election night, the popular vote went to Shrub, but by the time all the votes were counted Gore was ahead by a half a million votes. It probably depends mostly on how many votes have actually been counted in places like California.
