3. Wasn't Dixville notch a little off on the rest of the primary?
I forget but I think it was. Didn't Clark do really well there?

7. Yes, Clark did well in Dixville Notch,
But in the 2000 general election it was a blowout for Bush.

6. Let's remember something:
That is the land of hardscrabble Yankee pragmatism, not lotus consumption, like some places farther south.

But it is heartening. Indeed.

They're the town in New Hampshire where everybody votes at Midnight
To be the very first votes counted in the US. Kind of a gimmick the last several years, and the only reason anybody knows about them.

And they've been voting Republican, massively, like forever (I don't have the exact stats).

For them to split 50/50 pretty much means a lot of those Republicans in NH are mighty pissed at the Chimp.

11. only 2 Dems in Dixville notch!!!
Hours before voters in most of the nation's precincts are even thinking of getting out of bed, Dixville Notch's voting-age population of 11 Republicans, two Democrats and 13 independents lines up at the Balsams resort, where a special room is permanently set aside for elections.

12. In 2000, bush got 21 out of 27 votes
It's a heavily repub town. If it's a tie, then kerry is in good shape.

Actually it's a tiny town, so it doesn't mean squat. But if it's the start of a trend, then (dare I say) landslide.

13. It was 21-5 FOR Bush in 2000!
This is a great sign! Moderate Republicans who voted for Bush are voting for Kerry!

Maybe more. I have a fact sheet somewhere, but I know they didnt go for JFK, Clinton. Dukakis, no one I can think of.

This is truly UNBELIEVABLE. This place is SO Repubican it's not even funny.

I am truly stunned.

The first votes: Election Day's first results come from Hart's Location, N.H., where President Bush and Sen. John Kerry each received 15 votes. Independent Ralph Nader wins one vote. This could be a frighteningly accurate bellwether for the wider vote to come.
