I'm a Poll Worker...16 hours on Tuesday with no DU!
When I went to the training session I was one of only two new volunteers in my town. And at 45 yo, probably 20 years younger than most of the people there. I don't know how the seniors are expected to keep up.

So, if you can take a sick day, and there is still time to volunteer Tuesday, PLEASE DO IT! It is sooo important!

BTW, it freaks me out that I won't have any contact with the news all day. I'll have no idea what is going on! I'm already starting to get pre-emptive DU withdrawals!

And one last thing...I am getting paid $115 to "volunteer."

3. Me too
I am at a polling station until 9pm Central Time as a legal observer. I will be an hour from home, so no DU until 10pm CST. How will I survive and get my updates?

4. "Take a sick day" AMEN!
I've been volunteering all week, and I'm self employed. Had to dip into the retirement account for this months bills. I figure "what good is a retirement account if BushCo is still in office"? Act now-or lose your ability to in the future!

5. I am scheduled for 9 AM to 7:30 - and also to accompany the
precinct judge to the County Board of Elections after the poll closes. I don't think I'm getting paid though.

7. I'm There at 6:30 - you'll be very busy
and the time will go quickly. We will know Kerry won soon enough.

It's fun - and, you're right, I feel so young when I'm there.

8. LOL! Same here!
At 40 I am the youngest by far! I only get 100.00 though. The only good thing is, none of the good stuff will really begin till we get out of there. I'm figuring to be home by 7pm, kicked back and ready to watch the fun.

9. I'm phonebanking 9AM to 7PM
I'm almost glad I won't be anywhere near DU for most of the day, 'cause I think all the nervous energy focused here would make my head explode! :)

10. Same here.
SE PA. Supposed to be at the polling place at 6AM, till who knows what hour of night when the last voter goes through, then the various rituals leading up to sealing the ballot box and sending it off with observers to the county for counting.

I have been wondering how I'd get through the day without DU, but then realized that nobody anywhere will know anything about the results during the day Tuesday.

I think we get paid $95 for the day. I had no idea I would be paid when I signed up.

This is my first time, at sixty years old. I like to think of myself as the benign little white-haired lady in reading glasses who sits behind the big desk where the VOTERS line up in MOSH.

Here's hoping for peaceful, free, and fair elections all over this land.

14. Me too!
I have become quite addicted in a very short amount of time! I will be gone from 6 until 9! I will be going crazy not knowing what is being reported throughout the day. I am a Challenger and we don't get any money :( (I really don't care!)

12. I'm the official Dem observer for the tabulation
Same story--I don't get to hear how anything's going, and if I somehow find out how our county's vote is progressing, I'm legally gagged until 8:00 PM. To make matters worse, I don't get out to party until the wee hours when the count is done, and then its up the next day for more.

But I'd rather have that than always wonder if something screwy was happening behind the scenes.

And I DON'T get paid! :)

13. I'll be fielding the "where do I vote" calls all day.
If it's like the 1992 election, the phone will not stop ringing from 8 to ? I hope it rings more - in 1992, I had a feeling that many of the callers were young, and voting for Clinton.
