1. Thank George! He wants to keep everything local, ya know!
Same thing is happening everywhwere. States & municipalities are struggling to keep up with the federal mandates that have been unfunded. I can't believe most people don't recognize that. They still think they got a tax cut! It's not a cut, it just moved the costs from Federal to local!

5. And that's why you never cut taxes when times are tough
I'll bet when you actually sit down and crunch the numbers, for most people their tax burdon has actually increased a little under Bush. We've got an initiative on our ballot to raise the local income tax.

10. Oh, I suspect there's more reasons than that.
Seminole County and its cities are very big on rennovating the place and to do it they give developers big give-away incentives which are now beginning to add up. What is wrong with the practice is, IMHO, is that the developers and/or their agents, and local officials are often known to each other by one or two degrees.

We even have an organization where they meet monthly for barbecue. It's called: Community Leaders - Elected Officials. Or CLEO. What is very surprising is that though it's known as a mover and a shaker club, their activities are rarely reported in the local paper.

One of those things that makes you go hmmmmmm....

2. Yeah, local taxes go up when the federal gov't cuts aid to the states.
Amazing how that works.

3. That's a big thank you to G-Dub...
I try to explain to people that although they get a tax check for $400, they'll be paying for it in higher state taxes, higher property taxes, etc etc.

They act as if the "tax cuts" come out of Our Great Leader's pockets.

We, the taxpayers, pay for them in one way or another.

4. There goes your big Bush tax refund.
It's a typical republican bait-and-switch.

6. Smaller federal government
always leads to local tax increases.

Thinking as a "Small Federal Government Conservative" how about stopping transferring federal tax funds from wealthy states (Donors) to welfare states (Receivers)? That would soon turn the red states blue.

7. It actually might work IF it really was a smaller Fed Govt!
But it's NOT! Passing NCLB didn't make the feds any smaller, it just increased the burden on the states and costs more.''I don't remember one thing in the last 4 years that reduced the size of the Fed Govt! But some idiots think they can make things better by reducing the Fed. Income. I understood that their plan was to starve the Fed of funds so there wouldn't be any $$ left to do all the different programs. Well, they did the one half but forgot about the other half!

11. Yes
I am amazed at people that think we can do away with taxes and still have the things that make us social creatures..Like sewers, clean water, schools, roads, law enforcement. And so on.

14. I never got a tax cut and all the local taxes and expenses are climbing
I'm having a hard time understanding (well, not really) why I'm not making a $200/month car payment anymore, for a 10-year-old car of all things, and still I'm barely getting by with a 50-hour work week. I need to replace my hiking shoes, real badly, but that's 60 bucks I just don't have right now. And hiking is my only entertainment in these mountains because my DVD player broke down and I can't afford to replace it. Ain't the bush economy just grand?

Believe me, it wasn't this way 4 years ago. :grr:
