Now that the dust is settling, tell me: Do we or don't we need McKinney
back in Congress.

And more like her.

There were several "McKinney Wars" that I participated in over the past 2 years.

Either you love her or hate her.

But one thing that I truly admire about her: the sister speaks up, and speaks the truth -- no matter how distasteful.

that and her questions in the hearings on PLan Columbia...something WEllstone also was quite concerned with.

but as much as I hate Alan Keyes, if he took on Bush and the Republican mafia -- I mean really fucks with them -- i'd be an ardent supporter.

11. I love Cynthia
We need her.

Moreover, we simply need more people in Congress who tell the truth. She was one of them.

The time for being truthful is NOW. We're not going back. At least, I ain't!

14. Are you sure she'd want to come back?
She was, rightly I thought, rather pissed off when she couldn't get a single Senator to sign that objection over the court ruling that put Shrub into the WH.

Not even one democrat.

25. Some of our finest representatives have been "gadflies"
Gadfly: 1) a persistent, irritating critic; a nuisance.
2) one that acts as a provocative stimulus; a goad.

Wellstone and Chaffee could be described as gadflies....Leaders who prod, goad, criticize society into reacting.

In congressional history we've had many heroic gadflies like Wayne Morse (Republican senator turned Independant turned Democrat) and Ernest Gruening who voted against the Gulf of Tonkin resolution allowing the mining of harbors in Viet Nam, Jeanette Rankin, a western, two-term REPUBLICAN representative who is distinguished by being the only representative to vote against American entry into BOTH World War I and World War II; Barry Goldwater was a gadfly, as is John McCain, and Dennis Kucinich.

Ralph Nader is the ULTIMATE gadfly.

I think people like Cynthia are necessary to keep our corporatist leadership in line. Democrats need Cynthia McKinney just like they need Evan Bayh and even (gag) Joe Lieberman. It does not, however, require a "GO to Hell" Zell Miller.

Do I always agree with Cynthia? Hell NO! Do I sometimes? Hmmmmm....yeah...sorta...Do we need more political leaders like her? Without question. She gets under their skin better than anyone other than Michael Moore!

It takes both a left and a right wing to fly (did I actually say that?) Oh, well....
