What safeguards the early votes?

And another was wheeled in. I assume they remain sealed until election day.

4. My vote went into a lockbox

It went into a lockbox marked "EARLY VOTES." I asked the clerk supervising the voting where my vote would go and expressed my worry that someone would throw it out. She told me that when early voting ended on friday that the box would go downtown and get counted on election day. She said "Your vote is going to be counted downtown in front of a lot of people." I can only hope.
