The Republicans have out-run their supply lines with this Russia business
Out of control campaign momentum may have run into some ugly realities here.

The Bush campaign cannot embrace the Russia story (IMO), but at this point the Republican activist base is committed to the Russia story. How the hell can they swing this? Are Rush and Hannity going to run with it or tell their listeners to ignore the story?

This is some serious disarray we're seeing. What the hell can Bush say? Or campaign surrogates?

I can't see an integrated strategy here, or even a coordinated tactical plan. And we are six days out, not twelve hours out. Are Bill Gertz and Drudge and this lunatic pentagon guy all free-lancing, or what? Is this coordinated with Rove, and if so is it coordinated with the pentagon or State?

1. Too true.
If Bush embraces the excuse, Vlad will be pissed and may even throw out some satellite photos to bust Bush down.

23. Heck, he might even

withdraw his endorsement

I wonder how many rightwingnuts still hate the Russians enough to find it distasteful the Pooty-poot likes Bush and respond to this blame-the-Russians bullshit, however.

3. Hard to believe that this story has hung around this long.
This has to be rove's worst nightmare. 5 days of being on the defensive. Weird, something finally sticks to chimpy.

5. The sheep will believe what they are told.
It's what sheep do.

As for thinking people, it was a massive fu*k up and we see an abysmally incompetent administration grasping at straws to duck responsibility.

Kee-rist, I'm waiting for the stories about how all the HE got smuggled into terrorist camps in Iran or Syria.

6. Even the best saving throw...
would be that Russia took WMD...which they would use to say, "see Iraq had WMD"...which still doesnt sound so good since Putin is supposed to be our friend...So Bush looks duped...

I thought Bush said "We Dont Get Fooled Again..."

9. Wasn't Bush also the one who decided troops weren't needed in Russia?
I thought the cold wars were over and we didn't need troops were our Allies are?

12. Let 'em ride that dead horse..
1. Unless they have satellite photos of a 17 Semi-rig convoy crossing the Russian border on April 5, 2003, the press ain't gonna buy it, Fox excluded (although they aren't really journalists).

2. If it is true, Bush has some SERIOUS explaining to do:

a) Where is it now...can Putin account for it or did the Russian Mafia acquire it for sale to the highest (Chechnyan) bidder?

b) Was this a bribe to obtain Putin's unabashed endorsement of Bush, which was announced last week...just after the IAEA notification?

c) What are we doing handing it over to those Dirty Commies in the evil empire? Will it be used against us in WW III?

story to all the networks and news channels.

BTW, have people already discussed this angle? The main source behind the story was alleged to have engaged in improper activities. John A. "Jack" Shaw "conducted unauthorized investigations of Iraq reconstruction efforts and used their results to push for lucrative contracts for friends and their business clients."
