Anyone who wants to donate to DU but can't afford to, I will make
a donation in the name of the first 5 people who email me (only email because some new people cannot use the internal PM feature) with a short explanation of why you want to be a paid member.

[email protected]

Oh, BTW, I just recently flew a plane I had never before: an Ercoupe...no rudder! How weird was that? (I actually saw one tethered to a post in the ground years ago that flew in circles 'til it ran out of gas and landed with nobody inside it) This is a true story. :D

35. Ercoupe/Aircoupe
The local crop duster had an Ercoupe in the early 60s. Of course he was dusting with a modified Super-Cub with a student pilot license. He did, later, get a commercial ticket.

He took me out for a ride in the Ercoupe one day. Said it was spin-proof. We tried and tried, and couldn't spin it. Good thing I guess. While it usually takes rudder to get into a spin, it always takes rudder to recover. The funny thing about that flight was final approach back at the field. We were a little high, so Gene unsnapped his seatbelt and stood up into the slipstream (the canopy was open). It had the same effect as putting out 40-degrees of flaps in a Cessna 150.

Gene, the crop duster, did a movie in the late 80s. He had a part flying a Stearman on a low pass for the camera. He cut the cameraman in half with the prop. For that, he got a 91-7 (Dangerous & Reckless) revocation. Just like Catch-22. He then became a fundy preacher.

Yep, truth is often stranger than fiction.

Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 06:25 PM by DireStrike
As soon as I can get my mom to let me... lol. I already donated to Kerry 3 times in the last month.

She doesn't control my money but she doesn't want to see me get into a position where I'm giving away everything I make. I sympathize. =p

10. I can go for five as well
but I'm out of town at the moment and will have to do it on Saturday when I am back home---because that is where all my Paypal info is and that's how I pay DU.

My only e-mail address is through my employer and for obvious reasons I don't want to post that---so sound out on this thread and the first five get a *star* and you too can troll through the archives (when they are up) looking for obscure points from old threads with which to trump your opponent in a debate!!!

22. What a wonderful gesture.
How great of all those of you who volunteer your money. DU is a complete lifeline to me, living in another country, and not being able to get on-the-ground reports from all over the US anywhere else. (I have bombarded friends in Oregon with news and items picked up here, and the only two republicans in my circle of friends are voting Kerry this time around.) But most of my friends don't have the time to discuss things online as I do (I'm partly unemployed), and the time zones make it even more difficult. I don't know what I would do without DU, and I'm glad those of you who can donate do (donating from Norway is too expensive, and I don't have the right credit cards to get paypal to work) - kudos to you guys!

29. Thanks for the impetus to do what I should have done long ago
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 08:02 PM by KerryKat
Have done little contributions to different places along the way this year. Hubby and I both work in human services, so money is tight, but not so tight we can't sometimes afford dinner or a movie, so not so tight we can't afford donations to worthy causes if our pocketbook is where our hearts are as it should be.
Thanks for sponsoring others, great heart!
Along with my donation I want to send a heartfelt thank you most of all to the founders and administrators of this board! You have made a HUGE difference! You have given a place of succor and comfort to those who need it desperately now. You have given access to a wealth of knowledge and energy to those fighting the good fight every day. I never would be able to refute and convert like I have in the last few months without DU. I just don't have the time in my life to add the research in!
And a thank you to all of you in DU. Seeing the heart of people here and I admit the pain that I share makes it easier to deal with all of the emotions this administration has brought to me! To all of you who tirelessly research and then post concise and easy to read summaries with links, you have NO idea how much it is appreciated!
I can't wait to come here late November 2nd or early November 3rd to celebrate with you all!
Kathy
