I do not doubt there are democratic pockets in Texas, but we have NO chance of winning it. Of all the states to visit in the last week, Texas is the last one they are considering. Kerry needs to spend every minute in swing-states, because it is going to be very close if we win it.

I think it could have a big impact congressional races in 06. I agree that we won't win it this time but it would have a big impact on the popular vote.

I think that many feel left out of the campaign and it would show that Kerry wants to be the President of all the people not only of those in the battleground states, or that he takes New Yorkers and Californians for granted.

As a solid blue in a solid red state, I don't feel left out by Kerry's inattention to me. Spend the time on swing voters in swing states, I say. I'd rather have a smart president and a united country than a dumb president and some second-place-finisher's personal attention.

I don't think so. If Kerry came to Austin he would get a huge crowd. Not just Austinites either--a lot of people would drive in from Houston and San Antonio. Why? Because we're sick of living in a state where our votes don't count. Where we are tired of being identified with a Connecticut carpetbagger with a phony accent. Where our congressional districts have been chopped to pieces to inflate the Republicans' numbers (do you realize that there isn't even a Democrat on the abllot inthe newly reconfigured 10th Congressional District--once represented by LBJ?). The capitol of Texas is now split between four different congressional districts thanks to Tom DeLay and his minions just to break up one of the last Democratic areas of the state. Dean was very popular here and had great crowds in Austin, Houston, and San Antonio. Why? Because he told us we could make a difference. Those of us who have watched our state go downhill since 1994, when * and Rove released their partisan hatred on Ann Richards, are tired of having our state not be a factor in national elections. We are tired of the assumptions that are made about how the state as a whole supports *. Yes, a majority does support him, for whatever misguided reasons, but there are a lot of us here who would give anything to see the state go blue again. And we'd love to see Kerry come here and give us some of the hope that Dean did. If Kerry came to Austin--or anywhere in Texas for that matter--I would move heaven and earth to go see him. Texas is not an evil place. Don't condemn all of us because of the Death Eaters who have hijacked our government.
