My State Senator Allen Kukovich was one of the legislative fathers of the Children's Health Insurance Program here in Pennsylvania which was the model for the Federal Government.

Allen is a great man and a true progressive and he is being horribly targeted by the repubs (including that bastard Scaife)...

He needs your help and your donations!!!!

"Allen Kukovich is a true rarity: a real-life, honest-to-goodness, true-believing progressive politician. I mean for real. Not just preferable to the really bad guy, but genuinely good. Thousands of children around the country have health insurance because of him: he led the fight to create the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in Pennsylvania in 1993, several years before the federal program for which Pennsylvania CHIP served as a model. Initiatives like that exemplify Kukovich's ability to use his position as a member of a state legislature (the Pennsylvania Senate, to be exact) to further concrete progressive goals.

And he has also used his position to speak the truth on controversial issues, regardless of its effects on his re-election chances. Westmoreland County -- which Kukovich represents -- is a bedrock working-class white community and is still heavily Democratic, but not in a way that would normally allow someone like Kukovich to stand as staunchly in favor of abortion rights and equality for gays and lesbians as he has, and still get re-elected. Advocates for the abolition of the death penalty will tell you that Kukovich is their best friend, as Kukovich emerged as the strongest supporter of a death penalty moratorium in the legislature to no discernible electoral benefit to himself, only a conviction that it was the right thing to do.

The repubs have given his opponent (a turncoat democrat) a $1 million dollar war chest in an area where normally $200K is more than enough!!!...so as you can imagine they are playing really ugly..

I know Allen and I value him as a state senator and I know that I am giving as much time and money as I can spare but I am asking for DUers to help him!
