What is being done to stop this outrage in Colorado?
Edited on Tue Oct-26-04 11:01 AM by Miss_Bevey
I was shocked by what I heard on Democracy Now this morning. Andrew Cohen, NY Times legal affairs columnist was on with Amy Goodman. After much outcry, the Republican Secretary of State in Colorado, agreed to allow provisional ballots, but with one exception: they will only count for the Presidential vote, not the Senatorial vote. Since Coors and Salazar are neck and neck, the secretary, Repuke operative, wants to assures that Salazar votes will not be counted.

Does anybody know if this is in litigation? This cannot be allowed to stand.

1. Meanwhile....in Larimer County (repuke haven)
Voters are allowed to go to "voting centers". It's allowed in a county that will probably deliver 70,000+ votes to bush* (and Coors)

I'm not sure of the status of the lawsuit that was filed. Sorry, can't get an update on it.

This state is a fucking mess right now. Absentee ballots being sent out incomplete. Abesentee ballots not yet received. 55,000 voter registrations being reviewed and thrown out for "duplication". The list goes on and on......

I don't expect Colorado election "results" until MAYBE December. With the bullshit going on in Ohio, Florida, Colorado, etc.... I fear a repeat of 2000 on a MASSIVE scale.

2. Good thing we weren't going to win there anyway
Besides, Salazar is going to crush Coors. Kerry never had a chance.

11. With all due respect, rmd...
my daughter is a reporter for the FTC Coloradoan and would disagree with your assessment. She encounters Kerry supporters regularly on her beats and is quite optimistic that he may, indeed, carry Colorado. On the other hand, she may be wearing her mother's rose colored glasses

4. Contact your local Dem HQ or county office ASAP-
they will have attorneys who can handle it and sue if necessary. Each state is different- in my state such ballots would only count for those candidates who were on the ballot in the place where you were registered, if you vote provisionally at another poll. So, for example, if I voted provisionally at the wrong polling place, my vote for President would count but if they had different local or state candidates from the ones at my REAL polling place, my votes would not count.
I hope that makes sense.

6. No, no he won't.
People don't seem to understand that Colorado has massive overlap of several conservative demographics: fundies, military vets and active duty, farmers, and gun people. It is not a swing state. I'm happy Bush won't be running away with Colorado this year, but it was never realistic nor is it realistic now to expect Kerry to win Colorado.

8. In 2000 the under 30 vote turnout was only 8%
A few things have to happen in Colorado for Kerry to win.... and they are obtainable. A few "numbers" from my Colorado dungeon post..
=============================================================
About a 3% change in favor of the Lord of Darkness today. Don’t expect our local “news” media to report it because it still favors Kerry. Biggest change from yesterday is the Independent voter percentages, but the numbers still look very good for Kerry. Also, an odd flip-flop in men/women voters. Now more men favor Kerry and more women favor bush*.

bush* 47.4% / Kerry 48.0% / Other 1.6% / NS 3.0%

Denver Metro Region
bush* 43.1% / Kerry 53.0% / Other 1.5% / NS 2.4%

North & West Region
bush* 53.3% / Kerry 40.0% / Other 2.7% / NS 4.0%

South & East Region
bush* 51.7% / Kerry 44.1% / Other .8% / NS 3.4%

By Party: Democrat
bush* 9.8% / Kerry 86.7% / Other 1.8% / NS 1.7%

By Party: Republican
bush* 90.6% / Kerry 6.4% / Other .7% / NS 2.3%

By Party: Independent
bush* 37.0% / Kerry 55.0% / Other 2.4% / NS 5.5%

Gender Male:
bush* 46.3% / Kerry 49.6%

Gender Female:
bush* 48.4% / Kerry 46.5%

Kerry is leading by 1% in "Investor Class" (2 point drop from yesterday) AND by 5% in those that make more than $75,000 per year (2 point increase from yesterday) Kerry also still has a very strong lead in the 18-34 age group.

Top Issue for voters is Jobs/Economy at 28.0%. War in Iraq and Woor on Tar are tied for 2nd at 18.1%. Health Care is 3rd at 11.3%

Oh, and Salazar looks like a LOCK. He is leading 50.3% to 43.9% over the guy who isn't a politician but wants to be one when he grows up.

7. Doubt that
The Senate is a federal seat too, they can't make separate laws for the two. I think you might have misunderstood.

10. Well they can't
Federal law applies to all federal elections. This isn't going to fly. Salazar was the AG, right? He knows the law, I wouldn't worry about it. He's probably laughing so hard he hasn't had a chance to pick up the phone and say

:wtf:

12. Kerry can definitely win Colorado! ~ with our help.
I was at a GOTV training Sunday with about 50 people. When asked who had worked on a campaign before, only 2 people raised their hands - and that's in Boulder, home of progressive activism. There's really something going on that's running outside of the polling universe.

It all comes down to working our tails off for the next 7 days. Whether you're an optimist or a pessimist, commit a few hours this week to President Kerry -
