bush* speech snippet -- Invade Iraq to give Zarqawi something to do

a :wtf: moment -- driving to work yesterday, I heard this "snippet" on the radio

speech transcript snippet: President's Remarks in New Mexico
Alamogordo High School -- Alamogordo, New Mexico -- Oct. 24, 2004

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/10/20041024-1.html

We have a different point of view when it comes to defending America. Senator Kerry now calls Iraq a diversion. But the case of just one terrorist shows how wrong his thinking is. A man named Zarqawi is responsible for planting car bombs and beheading Americans in Iraq. He ran a terrorist training camp in Afghanistan, until coalition forces arrived. (Applause.) And then he fled to Iraq, where he's fighting us today. He swore his allegiance to Osama bin Laden. If Zarqawi and his associates were not busy fighting Iraqi and American forces in Iraq, what does Senator Kerry think they would be doing? Peaceful, small business owners? (Laughter.) Running a benevolent society? (Laughter.)

------------------

so is bush* saying we invaded Iraq to give Zarqawi something to do? and what makes bush* think that while "Zarqawi and his associates were not busy fighting Iraqi and American forces in Iraq" isn't also making other plans?

2. If Saddam were still in power, he couldn't have gone to Iraq.

3. Supposedly he did go to Iraq while Saddam was in power
and set up a chem plant up in Northern Iraq, in an area that was under the control of our allies the Kurds. At the time, we already had special forces on the ground and daily air patrols over the no fly zone. We could have easily taken him out numerous times but instead Bush used this base has another excuse to invade the whole country.

Just like Bush let Osama go in Tora Bora, Bush let al-Zarqawi go too.
