"Profiling of All Airline Passengers"... Kucinich responds 1/14/04
http://www.kucinich.us/statements.htm#AirlineProfile

snip>>>>
"The Administration is turning every airline ticket counter into a Big Brother Booth. Our freedoms and our liberties are on the line. This Administration is moving with breathtaking speed to demolish the Bill of Rights and privacy protections. In a democratic society we have a right to live free and they're taking that right away.
snip>>>>

snip>>>>
""These are serious questions. Big Brother is here. This is absolutely unacceptable in a democracy. We have to live free, or it's not America anymore. I will work quickly to repeal the 'PATRIOT Act,' to repeal the intelligence authorization bill that slipped in sections of Patriot Act II, and to rescind all practices that mine data for the purpose of profiling."
snip>>>>

******************
Kucinich is the candidate that will rescue our civil liberties from the hands of fascists. Do we choose to let these "Patriot" Acts continue or do we the people make our voices heard?

Dennis Kucinich continues to be the strongest attacker against this administration from the start. He truly is the voice of the people and he has the integrity and passion on serious matters to return the country to where it should be.

1. Who's right? Kucinich or Clark?
Edited on Thu Jan-15-04 01:41 PM by HFishbine
More from Kucinich:

"The new system will require all airline passengers to provide their full names, home addressees, phone numbers, and dates of birth when they book flights. The government will feed that information into databases and produce profiles on all passengers. The databases will include government records, information from commercial systems such as Lexis-Nexis and Acxiom, and mailing lists and other commercial information. And the databases will be secret, and therefore no one will have any idea why they would be given a specific security level."

Who's on the right side of this issue, Kucinich or Clark?

From the Washington Post:

Retired Gen. Wesley K. Clark helped an Arkansas information company win a contract to assist development of an airline passenger screening system, one of the largest surveillance programs ever devised by the government.

Starting just after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, Clark sought out dozens of government and industry officials on behalf of Acxiom Corp., a data powerhouse that maintains names, addresses and a wide array of personal details about nearly every adult in the United States and their households, according to interviews and documents.

Clark, a Democrat who declared himself a presidential candidate 10 days ago, joined Acxiom's board of directors in December 2001. He earned $300,000 from Acxiom last year and was set to receive $150,000, plus potential commissions, this year, according to financial disclosure records. He owns several thousand shares of Acxiom stock worth more than $67,000.

4. Why I'm proud to support him
I've heard it said that the old laws were 'antiquated' and needed to be updated, used as a justification for upholding parts of the Patriot Act. What would make this claim resonate with me is if someone saying this would then delineate those things that need to be maintained from the Patriot Act, and then commit to either removing everything else from the Act, or repealing it and passing a separate bill containing these needed changes.

Since many of our leaders somehow allowed a small part of Patriot Act II to slip under their radar in another bill, I don't have much confidence in them on this issue, and hearing the claim that they'll review it is not enough, IMO.

7. Kucinch speaks the truth again.
I'm so glad; even though the media rarely covers what he says. I know some people are getting it. He is an asset to our party.

10. Is Dennis Familiar With The Hart/Rudman Report?
or Gore's Report on Terrorism and Airline Safety?

Does he believe that Name Recognition is sufficient for screening airline passengers?

Since he is denouncing, rightly so, this particular plan- what is his alternative to dealing with the problems that are outlined in the various reports on Airline Safety, Homeland Security and Terrorism?
