Appleton (WI) Post Crescent endorses Bush
This is fucking unbelievable. They say that Bush has done such a bad job that he needs to fix it to protect his legacy??

snip -

"Bush’s handling of the war in Iraq and the growing deficit are causes for real concern. But, as troubled as we are with those matters, Kerry and the Democrats unfortunately have failed to show us they could do better.

This sounds cynical, but it’s realistic: Bush has a greater stake in containing the deficit and fixing Iraq, if only to repair his legacy. If, in four years, Iraq is not stable and the deficit is not substantially reduced, he and the Republican Party, which controls Congress, will be hard-pressed to point any fingers.

This is not an endorsement of the last four years. It’s a mandate to correct them."

Fuck his worthless legacy. What the hell does that have to do with our crumbling democracy? Do these morons not realize what is at stake here?

Sometimes I'm ashamed to be a Wisconsinite.

10. Excellent point.
When the rapture does come, I have a feeling the Dirtbag is going to find that his daddy isn't going to be able to get him 'in' this time.

7. Repair his legacy?
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 01:37 PM by high density
He has no legacy, except for two failed wars, a divided country, a million jobs lost, a huge deficit, and massive tax cuts to the rich. A second term is just going to be even worse if he doesn't have to be held accountable at all.

Astoundingly irrational! I hope the people of Wisconsin will realize how ridiclous this endorsement is and vote accordingly.

12. Bush's first term was so bad, we're sure he's next term
will be better.

That's their message.

My message is that if you think Bush is arrogant now, just wait to see how arrogant he is if he gets another term.

He had his chance, he had four years, and he screwed up! Tell the families of those killed in this unjust war that Bush wants four more years to "fix his legacy", and they'll tell you THEIR legacy DIED for Bush's mistakes in Iraq.

22. Appleton story...
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 04:32 PM by Kurovski
When I was house-hunting in the area my real estate agent went out of his way to tell me that he believes every word in the Bible. Chances are good he'll believe every word of this horseshit as well.

I think there is a Republican magazine that is published out of Appleton.

Beautiful area, though.

23. John Birch Society
The john Birch Society is headquartered in Appleton. Please don't assume that everyone here is like that though. Right now, I'd say that there are equal number of kerry and Bush yardsigns. Kerry might not win this part of the state, but he won't get trounced like Democrats have in the past. It will be close. (Hopefully, Madison and Milwaukee will be able to pull it through for Kerry).

29. That's a shame, and surprises me -- is Lawrence University like that?
I know someone who teaches as Lawrence -- we had a wild affair as graduate students elsewhere. He broke my heart when he took that job and moved, but it was just as well. The current Mr. Sparkly is a proud die-hard Liberal, and it would be perfect justice if Mr. Otherguy is now living in a Bible-thumping town. (Is Appleton really that bad?)

30. Appleton has some of the most whacked citizens in WI
It is a haven for the Birchers and other idiots like ex-congressman Toby Roth--- who stole his brain from a morgue, where the BRAIN was sitting and resting in a Gallon jar of formaldehyde.

This was after the brain was removed from a 3 year old gerbil.

24. Some WI DUer - Dare the Appleton Rotten Apple to Publish This LTE
Intelligence and morality must be equal partners in public policy, otherwise we are doomed to tragic misadventures. Sadly, the Bush Administration has no demonstrable "learning curve," and by word and deed the "Politics of Darkness" prevails.

Thousands of Americans, including young children, will perish because corporate greed and political apathy have deprived millions of needed flu vaccines. It truly is a national disgrace that could potentially kill as many Americans this winter as died during the Vietnam War.

Few drug companies invest in vaccine production because of the comparatively low profit margins. One US drug company outsourcing to England contaminated millions of vials and were shut down by the Brits. The problem is corporate greed and political pandering, not lawyers and lawsuits.

"FluGate" is a valid political issue and the poster child for Bush’’s failed leadership and corporate pandering. This crisis was predictable and totally preventable if Bush had been interested in protecting the safety of the American people. The shipment of 2.6 million doses of flu vaccine in January is too little, too late. American needs at least 40 million doses right now.

The Bush Myth Machine always refuses to admit error or responsibility as it belches smoke in a charade of Christian and family values. Bush has been selling himself like a Snake Oil Salesman with considerable success among unthinking voters who judge his words but ignore his actions which are neither Christian or competent.

Whether Americans will continue to swallow these Washington “bird droppings” is unclear. What is clear is that Bush was "asleep at the switch" on 9/11; he didn't protect us then and he's definitely not protecting us now. His administration will be infamous for Big Deficits, Big Business, Big Government, a Big Vietnam in Iraq, a Big Mess at home, and burgeoning funeral home businesses. The real "wolves" are already in the White House.

They endorsed Gore in 2000, but conveniently neglect to mention this. That makes 29 papers that endorsed Bush refusing to endorse him again and three that endorsed Gore now supporting Bush.
