I see no difference between the 2000 and 2004 election
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 07:58 PM by Tweedtheatre
in terms of numbers and that scares me. Look at www.electoral-vote.com <---- Now I know electoral-vote.com is not everyone's favorite website, but right now the only difference between the way the states voted in 2000 and the way states are voting in 2004 is Kerry has a decent lead in New Hampshire and a sliver of a lead in Florida. Sure sure, everything could change from now until the election, the numbers could be wrong, etc., but those results would be considered 'a reasonable outcome' by the majority of DUers and Freepers alike. I personally think we have Ohio, but I don't know about any other 'red' state from 2000 except for New Hampshire. Have the people learned anything? I think these numbers if anything show how badly the media has been this year. We need some serious media reform in this country.

1. You don't think voter turnout will be higher?

4. Yeah, turnout will be higher, but will the percentages in the states
change is what I'm asking. I think the Republicans and the Democrats have each had huge registration efforts to match each other.

7. Not so....every single report says dems have registered more new voters...
....by a considerable margin this time around.

8. I think most states that matter
Have Dems winning out the new registration war by huge margins. Florida is the only state where the GOP has registered more new voters, and that's only by a hair.

3. I prefer 2004 = 1980

Bush = Carter
Kerry = Reagan

(With Kerry winning)

2000 was a "Lazy" Election. Clinton had given us good times and we thought they'd go one forever so it didn't really matter - boy were we wrong.

5. E-V doesn't have the right Ohio numbers
3 polls yesterday showed Kerry in the lead there.

Plus, as others have said, there is a huge volume of new and infrequent voters who are mostly dems primed to kick some ass this year.

11. "huge volume of new and infrequent numbers"
This is the key. Yes the GOP will have their new voters who buy into the whole "Bush will keep us safe" nonsense, but I think the biggest new group of voters in this election are the angry Dems who didn't vote last time or haven't voted at all before. I can't tell you how many of those people I've met.

9. What I don't like about electoral-vote.com is
that they give a candidate--from either side--a state that they have a very narrow lead in. If you're up by two, they give you the state. It's misleading.

12. Ohio
is a big difference. Its probably leaning our way. Gore didn't even compete there.

14. I voted Nader in MA in 2000, will vote Kerry in CO this time
Have faith, Friend, that people who do not normally vote, or vote Democratic, are not being properly counted in the polls.

Just look at how much of the nasty voter registration problems has been Republican lead, because they know that Democratic registration is waaaay up. People can see that this administration is desperate to hold power. And I know there are many moderate Republicans who Bush has pissed off who will not be voting for him, many vets and current service families. I personally think Colorado will go to Kerry, or at least get the majority of EC votes if they are split.

As Mother Jones said, "Pray for the dead and fight like hell for the living." So take a deep breath and keep working to get out the vote.

This can happen. We can win.

15. Look at OH on the site. He even says it is Kerry's right now basically
but he faithfully follows his formula. Of the 2 or 3 or 4 polls completed there for today, the one that--by his formula--comes out newest by HALF A DAY was the only one that showed Bush leading. All the others showed Kerry leading.
