New campaign meme:Fight media consolidation & censorship: Vote Kerry!
This Sinclair Broadcasting stunt has generated millions of dollars in publicity and public awareness...but not for the issues envisioned by Sinclair's RW henchmen.

It offers a grim reminder of what happens in a society when a handful of powerful insiders exercise near-total over over the media.

This has generated widespread resentment and suspicion of media kingpins like Sinclair. It is an issue that generates intense passion and it cuts across many political constituencies. When Michael Powell promoted the first round of consolidation last year, progressive groups were joined in their opposition by the NRA, religious groups and MANY conservative legislators from small market states. It is a wedge issue which, frankly, would cause Karl Rove himself to blush with envy.

The Kerry campaign needs to immediately tap into this natural resentment, by planting its flag on this issue and allocating advertising resources to promoting this linkage. After all, media consolidation is a metaphor for everything wrong with the Bush Administration: corporate cronyism, the concentration of wealth among the elites, and lack of accountability.

Tee it up now... and have at it!
