you don't think for a minute that Karl Rove would hesitate to use it as a weapon to use against him, do you?

The republicans are mad that this is not the case and it can be a tool to divide their camp. Fundies are going to want Cheney to disown or at least distance himself from his daughter because of her "deviant" character.

Remember back in 1996 when Dan Quayle attacked the Dems for the fictional character Murphy Brown deciding to be a single mother? How he used it to premise that the permissive lifestyles tolerated, if not promoted by civil libertarians (read, Dems) was exemplified by the hoyden on television? Note: MB was never praised for not getting an abortion and chose to be a mother after 40 years of age.

Bottom line: Mary Cheney is a symbol that the republicans wish they didn't have. They can't condemn her but they can't use her to get * another four years. Therefore, they can only attack Kerry for bringing her presence to the attention of the public.
