she bought a Cadillac Cimmaron when she had money (Yes, dumb move, but she's never been bright about things like reading Consumer Reports.) When my step-father got so ill that he required more care than hospice and the nurse could handle, Mom took a FMLA leave of absence and they ended up needing some assistance in the form of foodstamps and Medicaid.

By then, the Cimmaron was such a POS that it was worth less than nothing. She had to pay someone to haul it away.

does not mean wealth, especially when selling the car means that any hope of working ever is gone. This is too common in the western states where public transit is a hope, not a reality.
