Killer story about Bush and the debate on cbsnews.com
I've never thought the chances of John Kerry winning this fall were very good, since it's become clear these last four years that George W. Bush and his advisers are more cynical and ruthless than pretty much any group of politicos in the country's history. I figured that even if the race got close -- or, God forbid, Kerry surged to a late lead -- Rove et al. would pull some dirty trick and that would be that. This may still happen -- the forthcoming anti-Kerry "documentary" being exhibit A in this brief. But, after last night, I'm not sure it matters. Kerry won so decisively I don't see many ways for Bush to recover.

1. Whoa - and he noted the spittle - can this grow legs like the Bush Bulge?
From the article:

(Another thing that never happened: Bush never wiped the spittle off of the right corner of his mouth. If it distracted me -- I actually care about what the candidates are saying -- I don't see how it didn't distract the rest of the country.)

5. Who knew Kerry could be warm and fuzzy?
I knew, I've known for over a year. What do these people watch anyway? Glad he finally gets it, but geezo. And George was warm and fuzzy on his religion? Starting wars because God wants everybody to be free? I don't know why people don't see how horrifying this would be to most Americans, it's not warm and fuzzy and it's not like Reagan believing ending Communism was his "calling". Reagan didn't drag us into a war over it. Well, at least not that most people noticed. The US goes to war to defend ourselves, not for idealogical notions that God wants everybody to be free.

Otherwise, great piece.

6. A question about the debate last night ...
It seemed to me that at one point * butted in after something Kerry said and said some very damning things to Kerry about economics? I think. Then * strutted his shoulders and smiled so impressed with himself and then the moderator asked him the next question.

Did * butt in at anytime that anyone saw or am I just finally loosing it?

If so, that reaction was so school bullyish and juvenile that I can't believe no one picked up on it.

7. One of the better analyses I've seen of any debate.
And though the "warm fuzzy" thing doesn't impress me much, usually, in this case I think it was a huge boon for Kerry. The joke about his marriage to his wife was perfect! Little self-deprecation, little humanity there. People who aren't impressed with his command of facts and figures were definitely impressed with the spontaneous humor. And Bush just had that odd sour look on his face.

10. Whoa, there, Requiem....* still has more EVs, per the polls. I don't
want to get my hopes up too high until I see the polls and EV projections after this final debate...and after the swiftie anti-Kerry movie coming up.

Looks good, but I'm soooo puzzled about that EV projection (www.electoral-vote.com). It's great to have more PEOPLE, but the people need to be in the RIGHT states.
