My interpretation of something Bush said
Let's shove pregnant teenagers into homes for unwed mothers so that we don't have to see them, hand out their lily-white babies to nice republican families and then pretend it never happened and insist the teenager never speak of it.

1. That's so 50's
My dad's cousin got pregnant in high school, and she was shipped off to one of those homes.

2. That comment was awful
It reminded me of sending poor people to workhouses.

Have any of you ever met a woman who got an abortion who would have had the baby, if only there was a group home she could go to with other women going through unwanted pregancies?

5. They kicked me out of HS in the '80's
I could continue my education at the naughty girls school about an hour away from home. Decided to stay in my hometown, go on welfare & move into the projects, a high school drop out.

Rip me apart from my family and friends and go on welfare as a mother with only a high school diploma...?
...or go on welfare and live in the projects and be able to get the same minimum wage job as the kid with the diploma...?
...or be ripped from my child by giving him up for adoption after nurturing him in my bod for 9 months and still only have a HS diploma...?

Of course, at that time I was living in the a state whose welfare system paid 100% tuition for GED and undergrad degree, which I took advantage of. Those days are long gone, but without them, I would not be working on my Master's today. :)

I don't think Bush has any more plan for unwed mothers in maternity homes than he had for keeping the peace in Iraq.
