Minister of Health Asserts Israel Buried 80 Tons of Nuclear Waste in oPt

GAZA, Palestine, May 16, 2005 (IPC) - - The Minister of Health, Dr. Thohni Al Wuheidi, asserted that the Israeli authorities have buried 80 tons of Nuclear waste near the city of Nablus.

The Minister added that the waste were buried 300 meters away from Nablus, while the burial of more nuclear waste was still being completed around the rest of Gaza Strip and West Bank cities, especially those with high population intensity such as Nablus, Hebron and Gaza.

Dr. Al Wuheidi noted that this would affect the environment, and pollute the aquifer water with radiation, confirming previous warnings of Dr. Yousef Abu Safiyya, the head of Environment Quality Authority, who condemned the Israeli violations of the environment in the occupied Palestinian territories (oPt).

I have been involved involved in both Citizens Corps and Red Cross since I "semi-retired." Disaster can hit at any time. As the Red Cross Disaster Service motto goes - "Together we can save a life"

why is it that i immediatly think of the aids laced candies that I have been accused of leaving for palestenian children?....the laser and microwaves that we "zapped" at mr arafat?..the poisen gas that we spread amongst the palestenians? Our HIV positive prostitutes that we "sent to gaza," I'm sure there are more, these are just off the top of my head...and now nuclear waste?

on one hand not being one who believes in israeli politicians it wouldnt surprise me (though granted I know little about nuclear waste)....on the other had the PA hardly a paragon of truth. If they are so concerned would it take much to ask an international body to check it out?

As a thyroid tumor survivor - I do not cavalierly dismiss even clearly biased sources. I grew up when x-rays and radiation sources were commonly used for all sorts of ineffective treatments (tonsillitis, sinusitis, Eustachian tube infections, mastoiditis, even acne, etc.) and in the mid-1980's we had an "epidemic" of radiation related thyroid "issues."

No indication in the sources as to the intensity of the radiation - so if true it could be anything from small amounts isotopes from medical applications upward.

We have a "problem" with medical radioactive isotopes throughout the entire advanced world - no references -- just too many references on Google (the hundreds of safety and training manuals don't even provide footnotes for this assertion).

BTW - in my illiberal, conservative, Neocon, PNAC, racist, Zionist, engineer way (at least that's what some appenders will say - so I will save them the bandwidth)- could this radiation - if the story is true - have come from Palestinian mishandling of medical waste from Palestinian hospitals? This is the kind of question an OSHA cop or EPA cop would ask.
