IDF suspends commander implicated in death of girl, 13
http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/spages/487788.html

<snip>

"The Israel Defense Forces Southern Command decided Tuesday to suspend the Givati company commander implicated in the shooting death of a 13-year-old Palestinian girl in Gaza last week.

The army's commander in the Gaza Strip, Brigadier General Shmuel Zakai, on Monday began investigating the death of the girl, Iman Alhamas, who was shot in Rafah last week."

<snip>

"Soldiers complained that after the first shots were fired at the girl, the company commander, Captain R., "confirmed the kill" - he approached her body and shot a large number of bullets into her at close range. The commander denies some of the accusations.

On Monday, the division commander met the soldiers and heard their version of events. A military police inquiry also opened at the order of Judge Advocate General Brigadier General Avihai Mandelblit."

2. This is one issue that I really don't get...
I know the Israel-Palestine "issue" is one that popped up a lot in the thread a while back here asking what the one topic that you "won't touch" is.

Israel "accidentally" (or maybe it was on purpose, I don't know) killed (or wounded) a 13 yr old girl. I read about the Palestinian's (almost WEEKLY) bombing of a bus or nightclub in Israel. I wonder just how many "innocent 13 year old girl's" are in such places...

I guess I just don't get it. Both sides are, well... nevermind. :(

3. both sides behave badly
the problem for me is that the US taxpayer supports and finances the bad behavior of the IDF. my taxes do not go to the PLO or PLA. i personally don't contribute to either side either

4. first, the ratio is roughly 4:1, palestinian deaths to israeli's killed.
second, the bombings of busses doesn't happen weekly. They usually occur after the IDF sees fit to launch missiles into Palestinian territory, leveling a city block or an apartment building, killing lots of innocent civilians in the process, or lighting up some 13 year old girl.

Now you can expect a retaliatory strike from the Palestinians, and then the IDF will launch missiles into Palestinian territory, leveling a city block or an apartment building, killing lots of innocent civilians in the process, or light up some 13 year old girl. Then the Palestinians will retaliate by exploding a bus or cafe, and then the IDF will launch missiles into Palestinian territory, leveling a city block or an apartment building, killing lots of innocent civilians in the process, or light up some 13 year old girl. Then the Palestinians...

5. Randi Rhodes was reading testimony of Vietnam era
murder of civilians --

When the enemy is turned into a non-human being this is what can and does happen.

Today we are reading about US troops killing Iraqi citizens -- and again the individual soldiers are able to put themselves in the mindset of dismissing the humans they murder -- as not being human. Iraqi are shot at check points -- because of the misunderstood meaning of a raised hand. The soldiers who manage to retain their humanity will suffer the rest of their lives with images of the people they have murdered.

The soldiers and officers involved in the murder of this 13 year old school girl should be put in jail for the rest of their lives -- in exactly the same situation they would jail Palestinians.

Wars turn human beings into monster.

Will the murderers of this girl serve any jail time? How many murdering soldiers have had to pay for their crimes???

6. it's OK folks
according to the paragons of ethical reportage at Israel National News, this girl was actually a "terrorist decoy" and not just a thirteen year old child on her way to school - move along nothing to see here :eyes:
