UNRWA demands Israel apologize over Qassam accusation
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) on Sunday demanded an apology from Israel over accusations that Gaza militants used a UN vehicle to transport a homemade rocket.

The world body refuted the charges at a news conference in Gaza on Sunday. It showed what it said was the ambulance seen in footage released by the Israel Defense Forces and presented its driver and rescue workers to reporters.

Rescue worker Wahel Ghabayen, 38, said he had run with a stretcher to a school in Jabalya on Friday after he heard that someone there may have been wounded. The wounded boy had already been moved by the time he arrived, he said.

"I came back to the car with the stretcher, and I folded it and threw it inside the car," he said. "If it was a missile, I would not throw it into the car but would put it in carefully."

The director of operations for UNRWA, Lionel Brisson, said UN workers do not carry weapons or armed militants in UN vehicles. "We want an apology from the Israelis, because we didn't commit any wrongdoing," he said.

1. So what was the 5 foot metal object that is seen in the video?
Seeing the car and the folks does not explain the video.

2. It was a stretcher...
And that was pointed out in the article. Why? Doesn't it make sense that it was a stretcher, rather than a rocket?

3. Why not show the video and show that the stretcher is not wrapped around a
rocket?

curious.

Israel had better be making the video available to the media after using it to accuse the UN.

It will be interesting to see this sort out.

Last time I really doubted the UN would really work with the terrorist in any way - and then we had the video of the Leb border incident and the UN apology.

Still, this would a move up the scale of evil if they are moving weapons around.

We shall see over the next few days what is real - I hope.

peace

:-)

4. That was fast - CNN is saying a review of the video shows only a strecher
Looks like Israel needs to say "sorry" to the UN.

10. Has Israel ever said 'sorry' for anything?
The usual line after a screwup is "the Army is investigating.." and that's the last we hear of it.

5. They've shown the video from the drone...
I saw it on the news last night. I don't know much at all about rockets and stuff, but a UN spokesman said then that those Qassams weight over 30 kilos. Only someone with superhuman strength could tuck it under one arm and trot along the way the guy was doing in the video. And I would have thought that if it was a rocket there would have been a lot more gentleness involved in sticking it in the jeep. They're things that I would have thought the Israeli military would have considered before they rushed to make accusations. I'm inclined to be kindly and put some of it down to the preoccupation right now with Qassams, but the cynical part of me is wondering if it wasn't a tit-for-tat exercise to respond to the recent complaints by UNRWA to the Secretary-General of the UN over the IDF taking over a classroom full of children and opening fire out the windows while the kids were still in the classroom....

7. Leave it to Israel....
to turn the tables and point in the opposite direction. Is there any proof that Hamas has used the vehicles? If there is any proof, then is it proof that they used it to move weapons?
