Petitioners: Until previous petition filed against former IAF chief for dropping 1000 kg. bomb on Gaza building is decided, promotion should be denied.

"A petition was filed this afternoon with the High Court of Justice against the appointment of former IAF chief, Maj. Gen. Dan Halutz, to deputy chief of staff.

The petition was filed by a number of public figures and Israel Prize winners who demanded that Halutz’s promotion be denied until a previous petition filed with the court is resolved. The past petition calls for the launching of an investigation regarding the circumstances behind the decision to drop a 1000 kg bomb on a Gaza building during the operation aimed at killing Hamas leader Salah Shade, a bomb that caused the death of 18 Palestinians."

"According to the petitioners, is it against the law to promote a person who is under an investigation. Attorney Avigdor Feldman, who represents the group, told Maariv Online, “I will not sleep peacefully if the position of deputy chief of staff is filled by a man who declared that the 1000 kg bomb he had dropped in Gaza does not interfere with his sleep”.
