'Israeli army is like a savage dog'
European Union foreign ministers on Monday condemned an Israeli campaign of home demolitions in the Gaza Strip as disproportionate and urged Israel to stop the action immediately.

Meeting as Israeli forces launched a new operation in the flashpoint southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah, they said the actions are illegal and against Israeli commitments under the international road map for peace.

The ministers "condemned the large-scale demolition of Palestinian houses in the Rafah district of Gaza as disproportionate and in conflict with international law and also with Israel's obligations under the road map".

"The council called on the Israeli government to cease such demolitions immediately," they added in a statement.

Israeli forces were pouring into Rafah on Monday at the start of a new operation, unleashed after the army received the green light from Israel's Supreme Court on Sunday, according to witnesses.

If they weren't separated by thousands of miles, I'd get him and Jim together to giggle away together over a Power Rangers video and a Happy Meal and compare notes on who can use the word shit the most in one sentence ;)

3. operation genocide
Edited on Mon May-17-04 01:21 PM by el_gato

Bulldozing homes will be labeled as "well they deserve it" which of
course gives the Palestinians a case for retribution. Of course, all this is about endless violence. The cycle keeps the myopic fools in control rather than people who understand that violence only leads to more violence.

13. How many innocent Israeli citizens did they make lifeless?
Homeless is better than lifeless. Homes can be rebuilt but the little kids that the terrorists targeted will never get to live their lives.

that protects those to atrocities. The terrorism is a result. They bulldoze houses in peace as well. Making innocent Palestinins homeless makes innocent Israelis more vulnerable. This has nothing to do with security.

15. Cowards get blown to shreds
The no longer so invincible IDF. Palestinian Resistance fighters have picked up on the methods of their brother Arabs under the twin US/Likud occupation of Iraq and have eradicated a score of Israeli terrorist invaders without recourse to suicide bombings. The IDF will not be swaggering as much lately as they beat Palestinian women and children at checkpoints.

18. The residents of Rafah
While they are subject to hardship in this operation, they also are tired of the terrorists who have taken over the area. The terrorist infrastructure has tunnels inside of buildings which are bringing weapons into the Gaza strip to attack Israeli citizens. Those are explosive belts for suicide attacks, Kassam rockets, and the possibility of bringing in more sophisticated rockets, the Katusha, and anti-aircraft launchers is very real.

19. I hardly think you are spokes person for Rafah
Edited on Tue May-18-04 12:46 AM by Classical_Liberal
I don't see any citizens of Rafah who agree with you that their houses should be demolished. It isn't necessary or effective to destroy their houses as it will only increase resistence to Israel. You admitted that the weapons were being used to attack the IDF, not citizens, thus they aren't terrorists. Explosive belts don't have to be imported. Katusha rockets and and anti-aircraft launchers are not used on non-combatants.

20. Not my statement
You did not read that I said they were to attack the IDF. This is what I said in my post:

The terrorist infrastructure has tunnels inside of buildings which are bringing weapons into the Gaza strip to attack Israeli citizens.

The scene in Gaza today is not nearly as horrific as a suicide attack on an Israeli civilian bus. Do you see body parts scattered all around, children lying dead with no future at all? That is the result of the arms smuggling operation. That must be halted.

recently, not because of suicide bombings. This will make more miserable Palestinians and not decrease suicide bombings one bit.

22. No, it is to find tunnels
The operation is to halt the smuggling of illegal weapons into Gaza from Egypt.

Ya'alon said that the IDF destroyed three houses overnight in order to destroy weapons-smuggling tunnels that they concealed.

"If they want to prevent house demolitions, they must stop the arms smuggling," he said. He said that even before the army launched its operation, the IDF had made sure that residents had everything they needed, including food and water.

He said the tunnels on the Gaza-Egypt border were used to smuggle in weapons that the Palestinians were not supposed to have, such as RPGs, and that there was a very real danger that Katyusha rockets would be brought in in the future.

Ya'alon also said that there were many more weapons waiting on the Egyptian side of the border to be brought in. He alleged that these arms had been sent by Iran, through Hezbollah to militants in the Palestinian territories. "In order to prevent such weapons being brought in, Israel has been forced to take action," he said.

24. A tunnel, by definition,
would have an entrance and an exit.
There are 1,000 international soldiers sitting in the Sinai doing nothing.
Here's an idea...Have those troops go up to the border and block the entrances.

25. Helpful
but only a temporary solution, if indeed it is possible to do so. There is a reconsideration of the idea to have an international force on the border area, currently.

It would seem to me it is the responsibility of the Egyptian government to block the entrances to tunnels on its territory. Doing so is surely within its power....
