Report: IDF to adopt code of conduct for troops at roadblocks

The Israel Defense Forces is set to implement a new, binding code of conduct for soldiers manning roadblocks, Israel Radio reported on Monday. The decision follows the publication of an IDF report that recommends prohibiting soldiers from humiliating Palestinians or using force as a means of punishment.

Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz approved the proposals after reading the report. According to the proposal, written by Brigadier General Baruch Spiegel, the army will train professional staff and will draw up a treaty outlining the code of conduct for soldiers at roadblocks.

Special border passages will be established for ambulances, essential workers, and dignitaries, Israel Radio reported. The army report also recommends that roadblocks are manned 24 hours a day.

More evidence of the humanity of the IDF. This talk of humiliation puzzles a bit, however.

1. Shades of the camps?
The reference to "essential workers" smacks of the nazi definition of Jews who could work and were therefore kept alive - for a time.

Anyone remember the old man in Shindler's List who kept saying he was an "essential worker" while he was being led away to be shot?

3. Nonsense.
It proves just the opposite. It's evidence that there were enough incidents to require a new 'binding code of conduct' .
