Arab Israelis Call to Kidnap Soldiers
Dozens of Arab citizens of Israel held a demonstration Thursday in which they called to kidnap IDF soldiers in order to free more of the terrorists in Israels prisons. The protest took place outside Sharon prison.

The protesters waved PLO flags. Twelve were arrested after refusing to clear the area.

At least one of the freed Israeli Arab terrorists was convicted in previous kidnappings of IDF soldiers.

6. These Arabs would rather see the destruction of Israel than a palestinian state
In their world view, Israel should cease to exist.

7. Do you have any reliable sources to use rather than Arutz Sheva?
Far be in from me to be suspect of anything that Arutz Sheva publishes, given its dislike of the settlers, support for a two-state solution, and its respect for Arabs, but Ha'aretz or even JPost are more reliable...

I've noticed most of the ops you start here are with articles from Arutz Sheva. You don't see any problem with Arutz Sheva?

It is way too right wing for my tastes,as right wing as EI but not as biased.

15. That's unlikely...
Y'know, it's not that Arutz Sheva is RW. It's that it supports the settlers, is opposed to a two-state solution, and is full of hatred for Arabs. Do you understand why it's such a revolting publication? When it comes to extremes of bias, it's in the same league as Frontpagemag, just to name one example...

You don't know what yr talking about when it comes to EI, btw...

Sorry, but what aren't you understanding? I used it today to make a point about the way some label any crime carried out by a Palestinian as terrorism. The person I'm talking to posts new threads from Arutz Sheva on a regular basis. Can you see the difference?

21. I agree that it should not be taken as a serious source
I think, however, that right-wing Middle Eastern sources, from IsraelNationalNews to PressTV, can be quotable as evidence for the attitudes of some groups of people in the region.

20. IxraelNationalNews is not a reliable source
It's basically the voice of the RW settlers, and while perhaps useful as a guide to what that portion of the population thinks, is certainly not objective or trustworthy as a news or general opinion source.

22. Your logical fallacy is called Argumentum ad Hominem
If you cannot dispute the factual statement of the authors, you attack the authors themselves. It is a disingenuous argument to make and does not detract from the facts in the article.

24. Arutz Sheva is a pro settlers publication. I don't know of any rule here

at DU that objects to its use. It is also true that they have a story that contains accuracy.

With that said, what they do primarily is frame the report/article for the most part to read sympathetically to the settlers cause..and they
do indeed have a cause and it DOES NOT include a two state solution. Referring to Palestinians as terrorists as a people
may sit well for you, but be aware their approach to journalism does not sit well for many who post here..whether they
be pro-israeli or not. Thus, Arutz Sheva may get a story correct, and it does not matter who says it if it has been corroborated and found true..yet, since we know the expansion of settlements is a major obstacle to peace, why use such a source is a better question, I think.

Hamas vows to try to kidnap more IDF soldiers
Meshal says Hamas won't stop kidnapping efforts until 'all of our prisoners in Israel are freed.'
By Haaretz Service

Hamas, the militant Islamic organization that currently holds IDF soldier Gilad Shalit captive in the Gaza Strip, vowed Friday to try to kidnap additional Israeli soldiers.

"We will continue our efforts to kidnap soldiers in order to free every one of our prisoners in Israel," Hamas leader Khaled Meshal said in Damascus.

OK, you do not like the newspaper. I get it. However, your preference, in no way, lessens their credibility. Their credentials are impecable.

27. Pro-PA/Hamas sources are more preferable than pro-Settler. The more rightwing the better.
Edited on Tue Oct-25-11 10:33 AM by shira
Preferably some publication that never criticizes either Hamas or the PA and only assigns blame towards Israel. If the source makes up things to demonize Israelis and their supporters, all the better.

28. Not exactly the same-Israeli Arabs remanded after arrest at demo supporting security prisoners
About 40 people demonstrated on Thursday in front of Hadarim Prison after a Facebook initiative called for a protest in support of the release of all female security prisoners held in Israeli jails.

When the protesters reached the gate of the prison, prison guards met them and demanded they leave the area. The protesters contended that they had a permit to demonstrate until 5 P.M., but the police deny that such a permit exists. Just before 5 P.M., Border Police and other forces arrived on the scene and began to disperse the crowd.

"The police began chasing after people that had already gotten onto buses and were making their way toward their cars," said Fuad Sultani, a lawyer representing those arrested. "People came to protest and weren't violent in any way, and were simply arrested by the police," he said.

One of those arrested was Fadi Mansur of Tira, who was present to photograph and report on the protest. "I photographed the demonstration as part of my job," Mansur said. "The police arrived close to 5 P.M. and began arrested the people. I explained to them that I am a journalist, but they nevertheless took me to the police station in Kfar Sava," he said.

"Eventually they released me only after I signed a document stating that they did not harm me or my equipment. They told me that I cannot publicize the photos , or else they will detain me for interrogation," Mansur said. "Some of the photos were deleted from the camera."

The police say that a scuffle broke out between the protesters and police, and that one of the demonstrators even assaulted an officer. The police also claim that the protesters shouted slogans in favor of abducting more soldiers like Gilad Shalit in order to free the rest of the security prisoners.
