Frequent Fox Guest Geller Deemed Too "Disruptive" For Texas Hotel
<snip>

"The Houston Chronicle is reporting that The Sugar Land Hyatt canceled a tea party event featuring Pamela Geller after protests by the Sugar Land Democrats Club drew attention to Geller's rampant Islamophobia. Sugar Land's Hyatt Place manager stated the cancelation was due to the "business disruptions" Geller's appearance was creating. Geller, a right-wing activist, was scheduled to deliver an address and promote her new book Stop the Islamization of America.

Although the Sugar Land Hyatt decided not to host Geller, she regularly finds a home at Fox News Channel to spew hate. In an April 13, 2010 post on her blog, Geller claimed that President Obama was "a third worlder and a coward" who would "do nothing but beat up on our friends to appease his Islamic overlords." In July 2010, Geller appeared on Fox News' Hannity, and was asked whether she thought Barack Obama was anti-Semitic. Geller said that she did.

As a guest on Fox's Fox & Friends, Geller once claimed that building an Islamic community center in New York City near Ground Zero was like "stab Americans in the eye." In a later edition of the show, Geller pushed the falsehood that the cultural center would open on September 11, 2011, in order to promote her belief that the center was a mockery of 9/11.

Geller has popped up on Fox Business to promote birtherism, and has theorized that Barack Obama is the son of Malcolm X. Her new book continues along a similar path. In a chapter on "cultural jihad," Geller highlights "numerous explosive revelations" about "the little-reported fact that much of the meat in Europe is being processed as halal and yet sold without the halal label."

5. In what universe is this story related to Israel/Palestine?
What would possess someone to post this story in this forum?

6. In the same universe that stories about antisemitism are related...
There's plenty of them posted in this forum, so why have you singled this article out?

16. Between this story and the type of stories you mentioned
This is about a crazy woman being kicked out a hotel.

It bears no relation to anything.

17. Those stories involve antisemitism. This involves Islamophobia...
How does it work so one is related to I/P and the other isn't?

19. Not really
Serious stories about antisemitism and Islamophobia both could be relevant to the I/P conflict.

This story, however, involves a crackpot Islamophobe getting kicked out of a hotel.

If there was a story about a crackpot antisemite getting kicked out of a hotel, I wouldn't think it would/should be posted here.

If David Duke, for instance, got kicked out of a hotel, I would not see any reason for that to be a story for the I/P forum.

9. In the same universe that a story about the Turks attacking a PKK
stronghold in Iraq is related the difference being that no one has conveniently dropped in and convoluted this in to something about I/P but seeing as how Geller is a strong supporter of Israel I guess we could do that if you wish?

13. "You are ignoring the author of this thread".
Could you give me a clue what it's about?

For the record, I agree with Oberliner. Geller makes bat shit crazy look sane, and I don't see what this story has to do with the I/P issue. I can't imagine that she's got any defenders on this forum (though if she did, I would certainly have them on ignore, and I do have alot of those, so who knows?).

20. Pam Geller defenders on DU?
Edited on Sat Oct-22-11 11:00 PM by Scurrilous
That's unpossible!!1!

Pam Geller is a leading light in the Palestinian hater firmament, and to me her antics are most times relevant to this forum.

Especially righteous smackdowns like the one handed to her by the Sugar Land Hyatt.

Bigot haters rejoice!

so are there in fact any?

Although I guess nothing on the I/P forum should suprise me, and they are on ignore for good reasons...

25. Apples and Oranges as Herman Cain might say
This is a story about a woman being kicked out of a hotel.

A story about her hosting an anti-Islamic or anti-Palestinian conference would be more akin to that example, and I could see it being posted here.

15. Don't see any connections
This story is about some crazy woman being kicked out of a hotel.

The story you mentioned is of international significance and very much related to Israel and its relationship with her neighbours.

18. 'Some crazy woman' is Pamela Geller, an Islamophobe...
If it was just 'some crazy woman', I'd agree with what yr saying, but this is about an Islamophobe who very much has some influence on the way some Americans view the I/P conflict.

If you really have a problem with this article being in the forum, you could always hit alert and see what the mods think...

23. Still don't think it is related to I/P
Like I said in my response to your other comment, if some crazy antisemite was kicked out of a hotel, I wouldn't think an article about them would or should be posted here.

I don't want to "alert" as it doesn't seem worth bothering the mods about - I was just curious as to why the poster of the OP posted it here, but, alas, that person has not respond to my inquiries.

I do appreciate your doing so, however, though I don't really agree with your assessment that this thread is relevant to I/P, or indeed, to anything worth discussing or giving as much thought to as I already have!

24. Conflict between Turkey and the PKK could spill over to Israel
Especially as Israel has, I believe, been accused by Turkey of supporting that group.

Also that is a major international story, whereas the OP is about a woman of zero significance (she runs a blog?) getting kicked out a hotel.

26. so your saying Israel will become involved in the conflict -somehow?
a team assembled by Avigdor Lieberman to discuss ways to punish Turkey already floated that idea

According to a report in Yedioth Ahronoth, Lieberman assembled a team in charge of retaliating against Turkey. The team reportedly recommended to Lieberman that Israel should cooperate with the terrorist organization PKK and even consider supplying it with weapons.

Another suggestion was to offer assistance to the Armenians and file UN reports against Turkey for violating human rights of Turkey's minorities.

PKK leader Murat Karayılan told the pro-PKK Firat news agency on Monday that his group is a principled organization and that it is not a movement that could be used against any state, the Turkish newspaper reported.

The PKK leader said that if Israel wishes to solidify relations with the group, they will first need to apologize to the Kurdish people and the PKK for its part in an international effort that led to the capture of the PKKs leader.

I believe the leader was Abdullah Ocalan

27. Lieberman knows no boundaries, the Kurds shouldn't hold their breath
waiting for an apology.

Since the earthquake, Turkey has up to 1000 dead, looks like Israel may offer aid to help...someone sane at work
in the Israeli government.
