Obama, Peres see urgent need for Middle East peace
Edited on Tue Apr-05-11 04:58 PM by oberliner
WASHINGTON — Reaching peace in the Middle East is more urgent than ever as pro-democracy uprisings rock the Arab world, President Barack Obama said Tuesday after meeting his Israeli counterpart Shimon Peres.

"We had an extensive discussion about what has happened in the Middle East," Obama told reporters, adding that the two leaders shared the belief that this was a moment of "challenge and opportunity."

"With the winds of change blowing through the Arab world, it is more important than ever to create a peaceful solution between the Palestinians and the Israelis," Obama said.

The US leader added that Peres "had interesting ideas around those issues" but did not elaborate, saying only that it was important to ensure economic opportunity as well as nurture democracy in countries such as Egypt.

I don't know if I would say Peres is Obama's counterpart. President of Israel isn't exactly equivalent to President of the United States.

1. Well, Peres sees not-very urgent need.
And totally on the extreme Zionists' terms.

He wants peace like Custer wanted peace with the Sioux.

2. Peres: Arab peace plan - a serious opening for real progress
President Shimon Peres told world leaders on Wednesday at an interfaith dialogue in New York that the Arab peace initiative must be seriously considered as "a serious opening for real progress" in Middle East peace.

The proposal, initiated by Saudi Arabia in 2002 and ratified by Arab foreign ministers last year in Damascus, offers pan-Arab recognition of Israel in exchange for Israel's withdrawal from Arab lands captured in 1967.

I think you are off-base on Peres and his position on peace.
