Gaza govt to raze 'illegal structures'
The Gaza government announced Monday that it has given directives to its interior ministry to raze what it has termed illegal structures on public lands and enforce previous orders to arrest those trading the land.

Head of the ministry's land department Ibrahim Radwan said those in violation of the order had been given a deadline which has now expired and that officers would maintain permanent checkpoints, supported by police, on public lands to prevent "any violation."

"From now on, those in violation of public land will find no excuse," Radwan said but added that large amounts of public land had been earmarked for agriculture projects in coordination with the ministry of agriculture and for public housing projects.

The move sparked criticism and prompted comparisons between Hamas and Israel, where a home demolition campaign in occupied East Jerusalem continues, based on residents failing to acquire permits within a discriminatory system. Moreover, Israeli forces routinely destroyed down homes in the Gaza Strip when it maintained a full military presence in the coastal enclave until 2005.

"Hamas has proven to be identical to the Israeli occupation," Ahmed Assaf, a Fatah spokesman told Reuters.

1. Read the last paragraph in the linked article very carefully...
the benevolent HAMAS govt. has donated considerable land for residences, schools, etc. As noted in other recent threads...most of this land borders HAMAS training centers...like the one where the explosions in the last couple of days injured 17 children and some adults...at a school across the street from the house(armory)that blew up.

Cute bunch this HAMAS.

2. the last paragraph? it reads
Awad said the Hamas-led government had allocated 3,414 dunums of land for housing projects to be undertaken by UNRWA and other organizations.
so do you possess maps proving your claim or is it a crystal ball or was your dishonest comment made for "other" reasons

3. The links have already been posted in other threads...
both housing projects/schools/etc. have had the sites refused by UNRWA because of the proximity to the training centers.

I'll try and find the exact links and repost. "Dishonest comment made for "other" reasons." You might want to reconsider your statement.

6. Reply to post #4...
title for my post concerning the 'last paragraph' clearly identifies the last paragraph as being IN THE LINKED ARTICLE...not the OP.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=124&topic_id=335818&mesg_id=336697

however the story as I understand is that Israel claimed that land was near a Hamas training center or something and based on that claim refused permission for UNRWA to build the school

http://www.jpost.com/Israel/Article.aspx?id=192368

however as I have already posted UNRWA refutes that claim quite strongly

9. Reply to #8...
the information(paragraph)is missing in the rewrite(update)of the article. However, one can still get the sense of what is gone by carefully reading the jpost link:

http://www.jpost.com/Israel/Article.aspx?id=192368

Read the COMMENTS carefully too. There were 8 sites donated by HAMAS. ALL were next to HAMAS training camps. They are not discussing just the one site. The missing paragraph was only two lines(link at OP)...that paragraph is now missing.

10. That's the same link I posted in #8 and there is nothing in the comments
except whining about UNRWA in various forms mostly claiming it to be a branch of Hamas or the equivalent of Hamas

However sadly I have come to the conclusion that you are obviously IMO not too serious here so thanx for kicking my thread but it is tiring..........

5. are you speaking of a JPost article? UNRWA has responded to that

UNRWA response to Jerusalem Post article

25 October 2010

Dear Sir,

UNRWA response to Jerusalem Post articleYour story of Friday, “No to UNRWA school near Hamas base”, should have been headlined “No to UNRWA schools replacing former Hamas base”.

The Israeli authorities are denying UNRWA permission to build two schools in a heavily built-up residential area of Gaza City allegedly because the site of the proposed schools is next to a Hamas installation. This is completely false.

In fact there was a pre-Cast Lead Hamas base at the site in question (a former Palestinian Authority security base) which was completely destroyed by Israeli air strikes in Cast Lead. When UNRWA subsequently, and with the support of the local community, made plans to build the two new schools and secured the site, Hamas removed the last makeshift shack they had established adjacent to the area.

This is another example of your reporter, Yaakov Katz, being fed false information by Israeli military sources, which is then used as a pretext for blocking UNRWA’s essential human development work in Gaza. Last year, Mr Katz falsely reported that Hamas had stolen UNRWA ambulances. Your paper subsequently printed the correct version of the story, after I provided photographs of the ambulances safely in the UNRWA compound in Gaza.

Again, I provide photographs of the site totally destroyed by the Israeli military as well as photos of the surrounding areas clearly showing them to be residential. I challenge Mr Katz to provide UNRWA and your readers with the exact address and current photographs of the alleged “Hamas military installation”. If he fails to do this, he must stand guilty of being used by his IDF sources yet again of purveying falsehoods about UNRWA’s humanitarian work in Gaza; work which, as I have argued many times in these pages, is in Israel’s interests.
