Iran Revolutionary Guards ready to escort Gaza ships
TEHRAN, June 6 (Reuters) - Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards are ready to provide a military escort to cargo ships trying to break Israel's blockade of Gaza, a representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Sunday.

"Iran's navy forces are ready to escort the peace flotilla to Gaza with all their powers and capabilities," Ali Shirazi, Khamenei's representative inside the Revolutionary Guards, was quoted as saying by the semi-official Mehr news agency.

Any intervention by the Iranian military would be considered highly provocative by Israel which accuses Iran of supplying weapons to Hamas, the Islamist movement which rules Gaza.

Christ, can't these morons just stay the hell away? This is populism with potentially deadly consequences. The Iranians don't give a fuck about the Gazan people. They just want to help the downward spiral spin faster.

1. If israel would lift the blockade then this wouldn't be a problem.
I think iran is just fucking with israel now. Trying to see how frothing lunatic they will get. Should be fun to watch.

3. Israel is frothing lunatic enough without raising the spectre of Iranian intervention
Massive dosages of Thorazine are required, or a new government in Jerusalem.

7. Amen
Of all the bad ideas recently written about the blockade, this is the worst. It's like Taiwan offering to monitor the PRC's elections.

2. LOL. First, link? Second, look at a map of the world. ;) If anyone's...
...realistically going to be escorting a new flotilla, it's going to be Turkey, possibly with the PM on board.

4. They have no ships
In Iran, the navy has ships, the RG has the small boats and MTBs

8. That's probably why he can say that
It looks good at home, and the convoy will roll its eyes and decline his offer of a few PT boats.

13. They also have some submarines that might be able to launch
various kinds of missiles. But, it wouldn't be in character for Iran to intercede in this matter.
They would stand no chance against the Israeli military and they know it.

6. Yeah, I agree and when I mentioned that I would like to see a military escort, certainly
didn't mean it to be Iran.. Yikes, the war would be under way at that point.

16. Israel has already made its intentions clear. It will do as it pleases...
...and neither international law or opinion will constrain Israel's actions.

Israel is betting that the US will forstall any action in the UN and that the rest of the world will do as it has done for years, wring its collective hands and make a lot of ultimately meaningless noise.

Iran is offering to up the ante and ask just how far Israel is willing to push it.

I suspect that the answer is as far as it takes to get the US directly embroiled in the Palestinian situation. On the side of Israel of course.
