Hizbullah Brigades shell Israeli target near Gaza with RPG
Gaza – Ma’an – Hizbullah in Palestine claimed responsibility on Monday for firing a rocket-propelled grenade at an Israeli military jeep northeast of Beit Hanoun in Gaza.

In a statement, the group said there were injuries among the Israeli soldiers targeted.

That claim could not be independently verified by Ma’an.

Meanwhile, the Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, claimed responsibility for targeting the Kisufem military post near central Gaza with two mortars.

2. This is the first time I have ever heard tales of Hizbullah operating in Gaza
Edited on Mon Mar-09-09 11:29 PM by Idealism
I am not sure what to think about the validity of this. If you thought Fatah and Hamas didn't like each other, Sunni Hamas and Shia Hizbullah do not mix. To religious extremists, the blasphemous believer is worse than the non-believer. Other than their struggle against Israel and their funding from Iran, these two are not exactly friendly to each other.

4. HINO?
Could be that this group is Hizbollah In Name Only and not actually affiliated with the real Hizbollah.

I seem to remember reading, when this group surfaced last year, that they named themselves after Hizbollah as a sort of tribute to them.

7. Could be a copy-cat group of extremists
If that is the case, they should be underfunded and inexperienced (meaning it is amazing that they even survived OCL, unless someone is giving them refuge).

9. Not really
There are no strings attached to the $2-3 million in aid from Iran, other than the obvious mission of resistance to Israel. They have no common ground except for this.

11. You are mistaken on this matter
Edited on Tue Mar-10-09 08:51 PM by Alamuti Lotus
the events around al-Hamah/Assad, and the fitna inspired by Saudi-owned (deobandi-wahhabi) takfiris are two key conflicts, but not affecting relations between Hamas (and some other, but not all, Brotherhood-based movements) & the Islamic Republic. I can elaborate on this at another time.

3. This Hezbollah in Palestine?
Oct 4, 2008
Hezbollah, Palestine-version

Reported today on news agencies the formation of a new Palestinian armed resistance faction called “Hezbollah in Palestine”.

The faction denies its connection to Lebanese Hezbollah saying they are Sunni jihadists reject the political process will follow Lebanese Hezbollah’s path of resistance.

The statement ends with the same slogan used by the Lebanese Hezbollah: “Death to Israel…Death to America

http://www.roadstoiraq.com/2008/10/04/hezbollah-palestine-version/

the fact that there are several common spellings of Hezbollah, Hizbollah, Hezballah, or Hizbullah to name the main ones used can make it difficult to pin things down

6. Positive development
At least these guys seem to be targeting military units with thier attacks. A significant improvement over the random city rocketing we see from Hamas.
