It's ugly and getting uglier.

IDF raided prison once UK/US "monitors" pulled out - to get 6 prisoners, 5 of which they say are linked to assassination of tourism minister.

US/UK say they left the prison because the PA could no longer guarantee their safety. US/UK say they warned Palestinians and Israelis they would pull out over their lack of safety.

British Council attacked.

Rash of kidnappings of foreign nationals - humanitarian groups and journalists and an American University professor.

on Haaretz. It makes me so sad :(

This sounds pretty intense.

This statement by Jack Straw is rather telling, though:

Straw said in a statement to the House of Commons on Tuesday: "It is the prime responsibility of the Palestinian Authority to ensure the personal security of the United States and United Kingdom monitors."

:wtf:

I think the PA has better things to do, like trying to provide for its people despite huge cuts in aid, and dealing with an occupying army, but what the hell do I know.

4. It benefits the PA for the US/UK to be there. It is what the PA
wants. The Israelis want the US/UK out of the way. So when the US/UK missions are endangered, the US and the UK blame the PA? Sure, that makes sense....

6. It was reported last week that Abbas was willing to release
at least one of the men, contacting his political party (PFLP? some similar acronym) to say that he couldn't be held responsible for what the Israelis did after he was released.

I assume, vaguely, that this is tied in to that story. After all, I doubt the Israelis want the minister's killer to roam free, and the political party would probably be working out some way to spirit him to safety or hide him.

11. Neither UK or US should have served as "monitors".
I don't understand what's happening. Israeli troops go in there 15 minutes after the "monitors" leave, start blowing shit up and knocking down walls to get 6 people? Meanwhile, there's been several deaths and injuries.

I mean, :wtf:

13. 4 killed/35 wounded. Now reporting that it's "over"
Whatever "over" means.

I've asked this thread be deleted - simply because I don't want a fight over I/P to erupt. I suffered a brain-fart when posting in GD on what could turn into a heated and ugly debate. It hasn't as of yet - and I don't want it to take such an ugly turn. (but it happens and we all know it happens)

So, I'm censoring myself - not looking to censor anyone else.

My reason in posting was:

It was news
It was ugly and getting uglier
The US involvement (monitors pulling out)
I'm sick of people dying - all over the world, people are dying while government's battle each other. When your "politics" involve killing people, there's something seriously wrong with your "politics" - I don't condone it in governments or groups or individuals. A failure in humankind is not something you "argue over"...and violence, all violence, is a failure of humankind.
