Defensive Use of Gun Thread
I believe the moderator asked that we start a defensive use of handgun thread instead of multiple threads. So here it is.

1. Shop owners shoot two robbers near Atlanta
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 09:59 AM by aikoaiko
Jumpy teens died in store they came to rob

By SAEED AHMED
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 01/26/05

The cash register at Shoat's Grocery and Package Store in Oglethorpe County held just $300 Monday when the two teenagers walked in.

If they had been patient, the would-be robbers could have had it.

But, deciding the shopkeepers were too slow in complying with their demands, one of the young men pulled out a gun, igniting a gunbattle with the 62-year-old owner and his wife.

Both teens wound up dead.

not exactly sure how to hotlink this.

7. just wait
it wont be long before this winds up as just another brady statistic, lumped in with suicides and murders under the vague umbrella term "victims of gun violence"

4. Teen (suspect) Dies After Botched Robbery
Two teens were shot at The Preserves Apartments in Paradise Island on the Southside Saturday, during an apparent robbery gone bad. One of those teens died.

Police say four teens tried to rob a man at gunpoint in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

Investigators say the victim of the robbery was also armed with a gun. They say, as he tried to get away, a fight started. That's when the victim apparently pulled out his own gun and fired several shots, hitting two of the suspects.

David U. McCray, 16, was killed. Aaron J. Muhammad, 17, was also shot and injured. The two other teens allegedly involved, Carl A. Jones, 15, and Oren A. Louder, 18, are in police custody.

*****
The victim was not a "gun nut" looking for someone to shoot, he even tried to run away, but that doesn't always work.

6. ...and reaping adult sized consequences.
A waste a life it may be, but that still doesn't change the fact he made the choice that lead to his death.

9. Not my story
For the second time since I have been carrying over the last 7 years, I have had to present my pistol, and once again, everyone got home safely. This one really shook me up.

I was at one of Xxxxxxxxxxx's oldest parks doing some metal detecting today. This is a good park for some wheaties and the occasional silver coin, but is borderline to a fairly "unstable" area. For the majority of my afternoon, there were a small amount of others in the park, not croweded, but certainly not deserted, either. Suddenly, though, I noticed the park was empty, and decided to begin making my way back to my truck.

Along the way, on a grass patch near the lake, I stopped to dig a signal. While I was down on the ground, something struck me as "off", and I snsed danger and forboding. I looked to my left, and saw that a young gangsta-type male had made his way to about 15 yards away from me, and was approaching slowly. I looked at him, and he acknowledged that he saw me looking at him. As he continued slowly towards me, his hands constantly in his baggy jacket pockets, he swung further to the left, so as to be able to appraoch me from behind. I slowly stood up and fixed my glance at him as I began walking towards my truck, thus making available an option to him to de-escalate his approach, which he did not.

At this point, I was firmly understanding of what was going on, and felt I needed to take measures. As I continued walking, I brushed my shirt and coat aside, exposing my G27. As well, I unsnapped it and unholstered in halfway, keeping my hand firmly on the pistol as I once again met his glance. At this point, he stopped, acknowledged thorough this silent dance we were doing that he saw and knew I was NOT the sheep perhaps he belived, then made a motion to another across the street, opening his jacket and pointing to where a gun may be. I do not know if this was hime "telling" his little friend across the street that I was packed and it was off or what, and I don't care. He sat on a brick wall near the parking lot to this park, a wall I would have to drive right by.

I now know there is at least one more, and I had NO DOUBT that what was going on was a size-up on me, and now I had to drive by this jackass to leave. Thusly, I had my pistol in my right hand, right hand on the steering wheel, eyes FIXED on shitstack as I drove by. He gave a look, and I drove on. Any armchair quarterbacks woulda done different, good on ya, I'm sure you have your reasons. As far as I'm concerned, I'm now home safe and about to play with my kids, the gangsta-boy isn't riddled with Cor-Bons, and I'm not filling out paperwork.
