1. our country would stop functioning completley without the use of cars
by 95 percent of student and working-age adults.

Nothing close can be said the same for guns, not including the authorities, or even one could make a case for INCLUDING authorities but for the sake of argument not including them.

9. That would be my first choice...
(adding in illicit drugs as well).

With regards to firearms and motor vehicles; it is often the case that those particular implements are secondary when alcohol and drugs are also involved.

17. Karma.
Then they'd lose their main source of income...

go into debt...

get deeply depressed...

start drinking heavely...

get even more depressed...

drive their Lexus into a bridge abutment or suck on the barrel of a 12 gauge.

16. Yes- Alcohol & cigs kill 1000's of people for every gun death
If anti-gun people really had hearts, they'd go after those 2 monsters
first. Then why not fatty foods- must kill 100's for every gun death.

Then a long list of other unhealthy behaviors. Guns are WAY, WAY down further on the list.

While the blatantly antigun media does it's best to hype one psycho hunter killing 5 people for days on end, 100's have died from alcohol and cigarettes since that incident with no NY Times coverage.

When you add up car accidents, drowning, chronic health failure in hospitals, domestic violence, etc... Alcohol and cigarettes are a
free roaming demon in our society.

Antigunners- If you have hearts, try saving 1000's of people instead of one. Focus on booze and cigs first. After you've banned those, then you can start attacking smaller freedoms that harm a fraction of the population.

I'll see you then.

4. neither
the constitution guarantees the right to keep and bear arms and the auto is an integral part of american survival.

most americans are gun owners and car owners. we are not interested in giving up either our guns or our cars.

once the stupid demo leaders figure out that gun control is a serious loser issue, perhaps they might pursue policies that attract voters, rather than repel them.

5. The "Dem leaders"
really dont push any gun regulation except the Assualt weapons ban and a check on gun shows. Get over it. We regulate how people use cars becauseof safety issues, why not guns?

8. the second amendment, friend
we, the dems don't do shit cuz the pukes control the govt. pushing unpopular gun control measures loses us votes. maybe if the elected democtats stood for something, besides re-election, who knows what would happen. my gun nut friends would never vote dem because the dems are percieved as the party of gun control

the so called assault weapons ban was a joke. it did not promote safety, it only alienated gun owners (the majority of households) with meaningless and stupid restrictions

11. And if that doesn't deliver the desired results?
What next? <fast forward> "Well we tried this, this and that and it didn't work" "maybe we need stricter regulations"? </fast forward>.

Mandating firearms registration? "Smart gun" technology? One gun a month?
ballistic fingerprinting? etc... (not that any of those ideas haven't already been proposed by the anti gun organizations and legislators).

One reason that none of those ideas haven't gone very far is because the antis are well aware that if they can't win on more <cough> "reasonable" and "common sense" efforts like an AWB or gun show "loophole" legislation.

I don't even want to get into the auto registration analogy as I've always considered the comparison as being ridiculous and unrelated.

7. What a STUPID Poll...why not ask about prison time for minorities
who are involved in both car accidents and gun violence?? How many whites are prosecuted for vehicular homicide vs blacks/hispanics?? How many blacks/hispanics are prosecuted for using guns in a crime vs whites?

22. and as Firesign Theatre said
Which would you rather do: hit that little old Jew over the head with this bag of shit, or beat out that rhythm on a drum?

I didn't say it; Firesign Theatre said it. Feel free not to participate if you don't understand it.

I only wish we had litmus tests for people purporting to post polls. Something along the lines of not asking stupid questions and then insulting people who point out the stupidity.

I'd offer the appropriate recognition to the person who refreshed my memory some time back as to the actual wording of the question in question (it comes in handy not infrequently down here) ... but that might be construed as calling out.

;)

And put down that pickle!

27. Gee, thanks.
Now I gotta go dig through the racks to find "Hail Lennon and Marx". (John and Groucho for the uninformed.) I don't think I've listened to that since the 70's. While I'm at it, I may as well dig up NL's "Radio Dinner" and make a day of it.

28. I might join you
The Bush's impending visit to the true north strong and free might be an auspicious occasion for a little absurdity. The discs (my collection also includes Don't Crush that Dwarf, and the c.v. has others) would be easily located, but I'd have to dig through a lot of drawers and piles to try to find some of the appropriate accompaniment, which would be years old if I did find it ...

Of course, there'll be lots of that in evidence tomorrow. Anybody with easy access to Parliament Hill in Canada's capital is welcome to drop by to inhale the heady odours of the smoke-in.

Won't be there myself, but I will be out on the streets making noise, with many thousands of the other Canadians who hold him in equal contempt.
