A 460-pound pink concrete pig stolen from the yard of Winnipeg Blue Bombers president Lyle Bauer remained at large yesterday, with David Asper, a board member of the football club, vowing to bring the thieves to justice.
"We will never let the terrorists win, and I will never forget the look on Lyle's young kids' faces," said Mr. Asper, who is also executive vice-president of CanWest Global Communications Corporation and chairman of this newspaper.
Yesterday, only deep tire tracks through Mr. Bauer's yard showed where the massive garden ornament once stood.
"We've become very attached to this pig," said Mr. Bauer, a former Blue Bombers lineman who in 2000 was named the team's president and CEO. "It's become a community landmark. So, they'll just have to bring it back in the dead of night -- just like when they took it."
