AR-15s are NOT automatic
Why do people keep insisting that AR-15s are autos? The NRA bashes anti-gunners and the press over the head with this. Autos were banned in 1986. Semis have NEVER been totally banned.

News people must be clueless or ignorant.

From a news article:

"West Valley Police give us an idea of just how serious this crime was...this weapon is very similar to the one stolen...an..AR-15 automatic assault rifle. "

3. LMAO! Who came up with that? Larry Pratt?
Geez a MAK-90 woulda stopped those airliners on 9-11. Sure.

I know a lot cops are buying AR-15s to combat terror but I really question that.

9. U.S. Army definition
Assault rifle: Medium-length, medium-power cartridge, fully-automatic or select-fire firearms, magazine-fed, designed for infantry troops. In modern armies, these have largely supplanted the infantry rifle, as they provide nearly as good accuracy with far higher fire volume. In some cases, they mount, in addition, a grenade launcher under the barrel. Examples include the M-16, the Chinese or Russian Kalashnikov AK-47, and the Stoner weapons system.

13. Facts?
Since when was the U.S. Army the arbiter of the English language?

I hate this place. It's like a bad T.V show "when illogic attacks" or some such twaddle.

15. On that basis
The Germans get to name them.

"The first assault rifle was a German rifle, the Stg 44 "Sturmgewehr" <1> (literally "storm rifle"). The term is now commonly used to indicate small-cartridge fully-automatic rifles issued to soldiers for battlefield use. "

12. correction
Actually, it was further production of civilian-legal auto receivers that was cut off in 1986; the ones already around were and are still legal to own with the proper licensing and tax payments. Kinda silly, given that there have been almost zero uses of a legal FA weapon since restrictions wer eput in place back in the 30's.A really stupid law that needs to be removed.
