Gun Owner Obsessed with Obama - Sounds Familiar
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Latest-News-Wires/2011/1116/White-House-shooting-suspect-obsessed-with-Obama-VIDEO">The Christian Science Monitor published a wonderful article about the White House shooter.

http://mikeb302000.blogspot.com/2011/11/bullet-in-exterior-of-white-house.html">Dog Gone already covered it, but I liked the "obsession" angle.

A man with an apparent obsession with President Barack Obama has been arrested in Pennsylvania after the Secret Service discovered two bullets struck the White House while the president was away, authorities said Wednesday.

What's your opinion? Too bad there's not a simple test for obsessive thinking, we could recommend that those guys be disarmed too. http://mikeb302000.blogspot.com/2011/08/my-official-goal.html">That would probably bring it up to 75% (only kidding).

Please leave a comment.

1. An unstable delusional man with a criminal record can easily buy an AK and shoot up the White House

2. You have actual proof he bought it...
...through legal channels?

I'll bet you don't, but hey, why let things like facts get in your way, right?

5. you have proof that somebody said "legally"?
Perhaps you left your glasses in the other room. The word was "easily".

Does that help?

Somebody bought the thing legally.

And then it was, oh, teleported to Ortega by the force of his obsessive thoughts, I imagine.

8. Maybe he stole it?
Maybe he smuggled it into the country?
Maybe someone gave it to him?

15. yes ... and ...
Maybe he stole it?
Maybe he smuggled it into the country?
Maybe someone gave it to him?

#2 seems fairly improbable. (But hey, maybe the US needs to control its borders, if it's a possible.)

#1 and #3 involve people in legal possession of the thing allowing it to fall into the hands of someone who used it to shoot at the White House. Kind of my point.

(How can somebody be charged with trying to kill someone who wasn't in the country? One of those "impossible attempts" we learned about in law school and wrote "exam question" next to, I guess. Should be interesting.)

19. Maybe you haven't thought it through enough.
You see, even if he bought it from his crack dealer, the gun originally started out legally owned by somebody. All guns do. That's why lawful gun owners are to blame, at least in part, for the mess we have. And that's why most gun control laws must focus on the law-abiding gun owners.

20. If you think it through enough
you realize that all gun control laws focus on law-abiding gun owners. What mess? I thought Italy had safe storage law like Canada's.

10. Yes that's possible
Thanks to the NRA, the current regulatory structure, with no registration system, no background checks in the secondary market, etc. makes it far too easy for straw purchasers and gun traffickers.

I find it hard to understand the level of idiocy it must take to believe in such magic.

13. Don't be too hard on yourself!
I have an idea. Maybe someday you might want to visit another country, where they have sane gun laws. That might help a lot with your understanding difficulties. You'll find that their rates of gun violence are only a fraction of what we have here.

Experiencing different cultures is a fun and eye-opening way to broaden your mind!

14. I am certain he has
I remember him mentioning that he lived in UK for years. I do know for a fact I have. I don't know how you define as "sane gun laws." Speaking for myself, I lived in Japan, South Korea, Oman, Saudi Arabia. I a have also visited Mexico, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Bahrain, Germany, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and UK.

I agree, experiencing different cultures is a fun and eye-opening way to broaden your mind!

16. open invitation!
to my neighbourhood, a kind of crappy area in the core of a major Canadian city.

We could have a contest, to see how long it takes and how far must be travelled, to buy whatever it was that Ortega was using illegally. Or heck, a handgun.

You and I could round up a few people and conduct the same exercise on the streets of a couple of major cities in the US.

The team with the most loot at the end of the day wins.

Who's got the starter's pistol?

18. Ask your local friendly dope dealer
See what kind of background check he requires to get you a gun. He might even have a low crime trade-in. Just used by a little old lady to jack cars on Sunday coming out of church.

26. oh dear, you seem to have missed the point
I've had a number of dope dealers as neighbours over the years. In 25+ years at this location, I have never ever seen a gun or heard a gun, or heard of a gun, in the vicinity. And the chance of a local dope dealer being interested in getting me a gun ... well, maybe, for a price that would knock you sideways I expect, and that would be out of the reach of any of his regular customers for sure. But I still kind of doubt it.

I'm willing to alter the terms of the contest though. The most loot for the least expenditure. How's that?

21. Ignorance from you? Whoda thunk it...?
For your edification, I've lived for extended periods in three non-U.S. countries on three non-North America continents, and visited over 20 more. Japan, Great Britian and Zaire, to be exact. G.B and Zaire had high levels of violent crime. Japan had high levels of suicide.

Your mind is as empty, assuming and bigoted as the rest of your authoriarian ally chuckle-heads. Good luck with that.

We could apply it to speech just like you wish it applied elsewhere.

Would YOU like to take such a test?

Do YOU think you'd pass?

Both can do harm.

What about people who are obsessed with people who own firearms?

Was Freud correct?
