Gun-Filled Home Leads To Child Neglect Charges
http://www.wesh.com/r/29484819/detail.html

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Two people faced child neglect and weapons charges Friday after children were found in a home filled with guns and filth.

<snip>

The adults were identified as Bonnie Brandt, 23, and Jeffrey Kaiser, 27. Both of them face charges of negligent storage of a firearm, leaving a firearm in easy access of a minor and failure to report child abuse or neglect.

In the arrest report, Orange County investigators said the home on Sassafras Court was filled with garbage and filth. But of more concern, they said the couple left pellet guns, pistols and long guns within easy access of two children who lived there. Officials said one of them is less than 1 year old. The other is 4 years old.

Neighbors said state and federal agents swarmed the home and arrested Kaiser in the front yard. They said pistols were found inside a backpack he was carrying.

2. Sounds like some trash got cleaned up, before guns were victimized.
Good news for the Guns and Kids in this story...The guns should find new loving homes, and the children should be placed with loving foster parents.

3. unfit parents
the system worked, so far. My concern is for the kids once they go in the system. Florida Child Protective services has been a train wreck for years, even losing track of kids. One became a murder victim. That was years before anyone heard of Rick Scott, you can imagine how it could be now.

7. Florida's
child service dept has mostly been privatized as far as I can tell. Yet when kids end up missing, the newspapers never report that.

8. I think so too
To be honest, I think the privatization was part of the problem. But then, my attitude towards privatization of government services were formed when Cheney was SoD. It created a lot of inefficiencies and problems during emergencies (need some cooks and office folks to help fill sand bags? Oh no, not in their contract.) Of course, these are same papers, and TV news, that forgot to mention Rick Scott's medicare fraud until after the election.

5. Now here's the flaw in your logic, jpak.
You post this with the intention of implying that because these people couldn't handle guns responsibly, no one can.

Now take the guns out of the equation, and you still have child abuse. So by your standards, since these people couldn't raise a child responsibly, no one can.
