Man kills armed robber with extensive criminal history during rare shooting.
http://www.todaystmj4.com/news/local/128571648.html

"The Town of Oconomowoc police say the man Fitzsimmons killed is James Babe IV, 39, of Waukesha. According to state court records, Babe is a life registered sex offender with a lengthy criminal history, including burglary.

...

"It’s not normal out here -- people breaking into houses and somebody getting shot. It’s never happened in my career here,” said Lt. Russel Paar.

Some people here would say that Mr. Fitzsimmons is irrational for keeping a firearm when such break-ins and shootings are so rare.

I say being prepared is a good thing even if the chances of needing to be prepared are low. It's far better to be prepared for no reason than to need to be caught unprepared.

2. How did the man wield that "extensive criminal history" to kill the armed robber?
That must have been quite a sight.

7. I do love headlines like that.
I suppose if a man's police file is thick enough it could be used like a brick.

17. Perhaps his criminal history was so expansive ...
... that some of it was written on stone tablets.

11. Can you really say "alleged" in this case?
He was definitely in the guy's home, and he was armed, making the only questionable part whether he was robbing the place or there for other illegal reasons. "Alleged" is usually reserved for someone who's been charged and is getting tried.

14. I just cut and pasted the original headline because the OP was confusing
and Yes, -I- would say alleged but, you can omit it if you please.

16. Still alleged.
Perhaps he was invited into the home to purchase drugs or something, but they quibbled over the price, and oh, hey, suddenly it's a 'home invasion' *Bang*.

I don't mean to lay it on thick, but there are other scenarios, both lawful and unlawful, other than Burglary.

Unless you want to believe he was only "allegedly" killed.

15. "Extensive criminal history" is a really strange weapon of choice.
Sorry, I couldn't resist making fun of the lack of commas in the title.

23. No, he used a 75cal. Flint lock musket
which remained under lock and key till needed. When the alleged, possible unlawful maybe intruder arrived he knocked on the door. After explaining what he wanted, mainly "stuff" the homeowner asked him to wait while he got it for him. At that point the musket was unlocked along with the ammunition, only one round, kept under separate lock and key, and the musket was loaded and the bayonet attached. NOT before!!!
