Three members of a Reading High School anti-violence group went to Harrisburg to deliver 4,000 signatures on a petition Tuesday urging Gov. Tom Corbett edit GOP moran not to sign a bill expanding the allowable use of deadly force when acting in self-defense.

The members of Project Peace, a group that formed after four Reading High students were slain this past school year, accompanied members of the gun-control group CeaseFirePA to the Capitol.

The petitions were signed online through various sites and the students took them to Corbett's office.

<snip>.

The National Rifle Association (edit morans) supported the legislation while gun-control advocates and some law enforcement officers have said they're concerned about the expansion.

5. I wonder how many of the people who signed the petition were criminals...
I sure as hell wouldn't want see my victims having expanded rights to use self defense if I made my living by mugging and robbing.

In fact, I would be doing my best to take guns away from honest citizens. I would argue that my workplace is the street and allowing citizens to carry creates an unsafe work environment for criminals like me.

8. More Guns to Steal
So he's got a gun too. You've got yours out first, because you're the bad guy,
and you can't miss at this range. If he goes for his gun, you can easily shoot
him before he can get it out of his pocket. Either way you get his wallet and
his gun (which is probably worth more than what is in his wallet).

Probably makes the muggers more trigger-happy too.

Surely you can cite to a significant number of instances, yes?

11. There are no guarantees that an armed victim will not be shot ...
That's why if you honestly feel that the attacker has no other interest but your wallet, it is the best choice to just give it to him. You can always replace your drivers license, your money and your credit cards. You can't always replace your health or your life.

If, however, you seriously believe that he may hurt or kill you, you have little to lose by resisting. You act compliant and reach for your wallet. When you instead pull your concealed weapon you shoot without hesitation.

You can successfully use a concealed firearm against a mugger. It is however a last choice in my opinion.

Would-be victim shoots, kills robber at Orange County carwash
January 10, 2009|By Willoughby Mariano, Sentinel Staff Writer

Gunfire at a South Orange Blossom Trail carwash Friday left a suspected robber dead at the hands of his intended victim, Orange County deputies said.

The attack took place about 6:40 p.m. when two men, one armed with a sawed-off shotgun, walked up to a customer inside a carwash bay at 5101 S. Orange Blossom Trail. They tried to rob the patron, but he pulled out a handgun and fired, striking one of his attackers, Cmdr. Paul "Spike" Hopkins said.

"The bad guy was killed, and this guy is safe tonight," Hopkins said. Investigators did not release the names of those involved. The second suspect ran off and had not been found early today.

Friday's shooting was the second time in four days that a customer at an Orange County business shot and killed a robbery suspect.

Federal Agent Shoots Would-Be Robber
Thursday, Aug 5, 2010

A pair of teenage robbery suspects picked the wrong would-be victim overnight Wednesday in San Francisco's Bayview District and now, one of those suspects is in a hospital in critical condition.

The two suspects approached a woman outside her apartment in the Bayview at about midnight and tried to rob her at gunpoint. But the woman -- a 36-year-old IRS agent -- pulled out her own gun and shot one of the suspects in the stomach.

The incident occurred at about 11 a.m. behind a Wendy's restaurant, located on Broadway.

13. Mugger don't walk around with their gun out and ready.
They carry concealed and draw at the last second. Before they draw they will attempt to isolate you and approach to within a few feet. If you are alert to your surrounding and what is happening you will be aware that someone is stalking you and you can be ready. You can even take some pro-active steps to stop the impending assault before it happens. There are some excellent books on the topic. Would you like me to recommend some?

9. Nice hyperbole..
care to find evidence of that happening in any significant number in any state that has enacted 'no duty to retreat' provisions?

12. Of course you'll get no (substantive) answer.
States that have eliminated repulsive "duty to retreat" laws haven't seen an increase in firearms-related crime. Sort of like states with must-issue CCW permit policies have somehow failed to experience the "blood in the streets" scenarios the hand-wringers predicted.

Fancy that.

15. That's an official "Assault Clip" to you buddy
Didn't you get the Brady talking points for June?

We now refer to any magazine over 10 rounds as; "a deadly assault clip" that must be banned.

And in the meantime they aren't too sure about those Grand 8 round "magazines" either.
