Brooklyn Man opens fire with hunting rifle on group of teenagers who wouldn't leave his stoop
A Brooklyn man with a hair-trigger temper wounded two boys when he opened fire with a hunting rifle on a group of teens who refused to stop hanging out outside his home, police said Sunday.

Thomas Dunikowski, 30, was arrested and slapped with a host of charges for unleashing the crazy fusillade in Marine Park shortly before midnight Sunday, police said.

-----

The teens were rambunctious and making a terrible racket as they hung out on the stoop outside Dunikowski's home on Stuart St. about 11:40 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Dunikowski initially told them to scram, but they ignored his warning - and he didn't take it lightly, police said.

Incensed, Dunikowski went inside his home, fetched his semi-automatic hunting rifle and loaded it. He opened a second-floor window, took aim and began firing as if it were target practice, police said.

And he will probably end up in prison or jail & lose his right to own a gun as he should.

5. I'm not defending what he did but many times cops can't get
to these calls. Brooklyn I'd bet on a busy summer weekend might be the case.

7. Sad that he's going to jail for shooting at kids?
That's kooky.

If you think his gun rights are more important than young lives, you're sick.

12. No, it's not.
Holy hell man but you just love to take peoples sarcastic comments seriously and then apply them to a large number of members on this forum, don't you? I mean seriously, do you have any idea what it says about the validity of your position that you have to resort to such tactics? It's disgusting but laughable.

But what is also sick is taking such comments from one individual and then attempting to apply them to the whole of the gun owning community on the DU. To be frank the comment is so out there that I honestly believe the poster in question is actually somebody on your side of the camp having a bit of fun (such as onehandle does on a regular basis), as this isn't the first time that poster has posted similar comments.

19. More than one feel that way. You don't, that's good -- but there are lots of irresponsible gunners.

As I've said before, the most irresponsible may be right wing gun advocates. But, there are some irresponsible here too.

Not applying to the "whole of gun owning community" -- Just a significant subset who are a danger to themselves, others and society.

21. I feel the same way about religious people.
Most religious people are ok, but there is a significant subset who are a danger to themselves, others and society. However, you don't see me using this as a rationalization for banning religion, either, which is what sets you and I apart.

28. Bizarre twist: Mother of wounded bystander hails gunman as hero
The Brooklyn gunman who opened fire on a pack of noisy teens was hailed as a hero Monday by the most unlikely of people - the mother of the woman he inadvertantly wounded.

Larisa Kaprovskaya said Thomas Dunikowski was just trying to protect them from a neighborhood threat when he got his gun.

"He shot because he wants to protect us," said Kaprovskaya, 50. "I don't know what would have happened to us if he didn't try to protect us. I appreciate him."

-----

Yana Kaprovskaya was not badly hurt, her mother said. She said Dunikowski stood up for them after the cops disregarded their pleas for help.
