Gun violence in Kansas City threatens local shopkeepers
http://www.kansascity.com/2011/05/22/2894372/gun-violence-in-kansas-city-threatens.html

I was able to attend your inaugural picnic recently and it was a wonderful day, beautiful weather, good food and great music in Swope Park. What an optimistic start for the new mayor of Kansas City!

<snip>

Please, Mr. Mayor, make this city a safer place to go to work. Increase the odds of getting to go home alive at the end of the work day. I expect your administration to demonstrate a commitment to reducing crime in this city.

In addition, I believe this is a greater danger to the economic future of Kansas City than the “poaching” of local business by the state of Kansas because the fear of violent crime is one of the biggest reasons that businesses and families move away from Kansas City.

Let’s not waste this opportunity to attempt to prevent these violent acts as many of our young people will soon be working behind a cash register at summer jobs.

<more>

but...but...but... more guns = less crime

not

1. Grasping at straws
Godspeed to the KC police and Jackson County prosecutors to help convict the killers.

As neighbors, we must learn to embrace the notion that we cannot tolerate situations that contribute to crime and destroy our communities and the lives of young people who end up committing a senseless act of violence. From poverty, to education, to law enforcement, each of us can make a difference.

The only person blaming the "guns" here is you!

4. The article doesn't say "gun violence". It says "violent crime".
I guess in jpak-world crime with knives, clubs, fists, etc isn't violent.

6. Lets look at the FBI stats for Kansas City: YOU FAIL
The first column is population, then the number of violent crimes, then the rate per 100K, and the year. The year 2008 for Kansas City is not in the FBI table.
142,102 940 661 2009
143,371 1,149 801 2007
145,229 1,245 857 2006

Look, the violent crime rate is falling!! Jpak fails again.

7. Maybe I missed it, but I seen no reference to gun control in the article ...
I think everybody who posts here on both sides of the gun control issue is in favor of better law enforcement to reduce crime.

From the article:

Please, Mr. Mayor, make this city a safer place to go to work. Increase the odds of getting to go home alive at the end of the work day. I expect your administration to demonstrate a commitment to reducing crime in this city

8. Who woulda thought, criminals doing criminal things.
All the more important for citizens to arm themselves for protection.

What's your fucking point? Who said anything about more guns=less crime? You are making shit up again, as usual. Don't you ever tire of the dishonesty? Your own that is.
