ACTION cancels gun show protest due to ‘threats’
http://www.vindy.com/news/2011/apr/17/action-cancels-meeting-due-to-8216threat/

A Youngstown-based ministerial group that had hoped to meet with gun sellers during this weekend’s gun show at the Eastwood Expo Center canceled its plans Saturday, citing what it said were threats from a representative of the Cafaro Co.

<snip>

ACTION (the Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing our Neighborhoods) had wanted to attend the show and ask individual gun sellers to get background checks of buyers before selling.

Federally licensed dealers are required by law to conduct background checks of all purchasers, but there is no similar requirement for individual sellers.

Lori O’Neill of Cleveland, who advises nonprofit organizations on reducing gun violence, said the Cafaro employee threatened them with lawsuits, prosecution and worse.

1. Unrec for dishonesty in the post
Left out this little bit of information, how convenient:

"Lori O’Neill of Cleveland, who advises nonprofit organizations on reducing gun violence, said the Cafaro employee threatened them with lawsuits, prosecution and worse.

“He said to us, ‘You might encounter some violence , and as far as I’m concerned, that’s your problem,’” O’Neill said."

OH, MY, GOD...lawsuits, prosecution and worse...and a rep from the mall says you MIGHT encounter some violence...HOLY SHIT

Showed or said that they were afraid of anything.

3. Can't have anyone acting *responsibly* at a gun show, can we?
That would defeat the whole purpose of it.

How do you propose they accomplish this feat, since it is illegal for non-Dealers to access the NICS?

10. To be fair
Any gun sold at a gunshow in Colorado must go through NICS. The private sales either make a deal w/ an FFL to run their checks or you go to a booth run bty an FFL set aside specifically for background checks.

So, it can be done I just don't think it has any effect on crime

18. Do you have any idea how many gun shows there are a week? And....

How many people were accidentally hurt in sports this week? Should we ban those also?

I cannot tell if you are serious about this topic or just causing trouble.

yup
