California Under Attack By Liberal Pro-Gun Activists
California was the antis' last best hope of gun control being implemented across the U.S. "As goes California, goes the rest of the U.S." as the saying goes.

Now the tide is finally turning...

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—How much discretion California's law enforcement officials have in issuing concealed weapons permits is the subject of a federal lawsuit with national overtones.

On Thursday, gun-rights advocates argued in federal court in Sacramento that county sheriffs—who handle most such permits—must issue them to anyone who completes a training course and has no mental health problems or criminal background.

They are challenging a policy by Yolo County Sheriff Ed Prieto, who says applicants must have a reason to carry a concealed weapon, such as a threat to their safety. Gun-rights attorney Alan Gura says that gives the sheriff discretion over a fundamental right to bear arms.

U.S. District Court Judge Morrison England Jr. says the lawsuit is part of a national debate over carrying weapons in public.

Alan Gura, the lead litigator in the SCOTUS cases that liberalized gun laws in Washington D.C. and Chicago, is heading the charge.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The nationwide debate over liberalizing gun laws spilled into a federal courtroom in Sacramento on Thursday as gun-rights groups challenged how much discretion California's law enforcement officials have in issuing concealed weapons permits.

Gun-rights advocates argued that county sheriffs, who handle most such permits, must issue them to anyone who completes a training course and has no mental health problems or criminal background.

They are challenging a policy by Yolo County Sheriff Ed Prieto, who says applicants in his county northwest of Sacramento must prove they have a reason to carry a concealed weapon, such as a threat to their safety.

3. What other discretionary powers would you like to give to county sheriffs?
Maybe they could decide who gets to vote.

Five exclamation points and an exhausted cliché. Thanks for playing.

5. Cali's firearms laws are among the strictest
(and frankly the most bizarre) in the country. What benefit have the good people of Cali realized by the conservative firearms laws? Lower crime rate? Lower firearm death or injury rate? Anything over say Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Washington?

Are you really supportive of allowing politicians to arbitrarily choose who can carry concealed and who can't? No guidelines? Just going by their 'gut' which is usually connected to their pocket book? "What could possibly go wrong with that?"

10. Probably the same thing that has been happening, NOTHING!!!!
Well, not nothing, the crime rate HAS dropped to its lowest levels in years while gun ownership is at its highest ever, but the two are not necessarily related, but thats not the point. You already KNOW what the point is, Dan.
