Blowback.
For a while now, bills have been introduced.

Restrant carry.

Constitutional carry.

CCW reciprocity.

Campus carry.

Those are but a few examples, out of many.

How much of it is blowback, in response to the things the anti-gun lobby has been pushing over the years?

Discuss.

2. Some of it is probably blowback, but ...
Edited on Fri Feb-25-11 06:20 PM by Kennah
... I think there is a racial angle as well.

In days past, restrictive gun laws weren't for "the good white Christian people".

Equality and integration means the restrictive laws today apply to most everyone.

3. Restaurant carry restrictions are just plain silly
Opponents of concealed carry tend to insert things like restaurant bans, park bans, bank bans, hospital and doctor's office bans, etc. as poison pills to outright kill the bill. After a couple of years, and the streets remain free of blood, some of the poison gets repealed.

17. Yea, but an armed diner could react to an overcooked steak
and pull out his gun and start shouting "You turned this beautiful piece of meat into a dry, tough piece of shoe leather. And now you will pay!!!" and there would be blood in the dining hall (but not in the well done piece of steak, which was dry leathery brown)

It could happen. Think of the children!

5. IMO a small minority group touting one or the other side of a divisive, polarizing political issue
can keep their crusade going by finding a few candidates in constituencies responsive to such campaign rhetoric.

If elected the representative is obligated to pay-back by introducing bills that will not pass.

Such bills feed the PR machine of the special interest for a short time and the media in a quiet day proclaims in headlines "BILL SO & SO INTRODUCED TO SOLVE WHATEVER".

Behind the scenes, corporatist who fund candidates from both parties ROFL.

The people shouted, "We the people are dead, long live the corporation."

And the high priests of Mammon laughed about how easy it was to destroy the world's longest running, most successful experiment in democracy.

And the thirsty and hungry and sick and imprisoned and naked prayed to Mammon to have mercy on their wretched. miserable bodies because the people had lost the very soul of democracy.

6. I do think much is due to blowback...
We've seen so many absolutely ridiculous restriction laws promoted that gun owners are dubious of any new type of restriction, whether it is reasonable or not. I'd have to believe that many gun owners promote pro-gun legislation to their groups and legislators to take pro-active steps to preserve our rights, out of belief that if we don't, we will lose them.

They can "do not want guns everywhere in our society" day and night. That's all fine and dandy. They can "not want" all they want to.

Unfortunately, it goes farther than that.
