Dick Cheney calls for tighter gun restrictions
Former Vice President Dick Cheney, a staunch gun advocate, says tighter weapons regulations might be "appropriate" to prevent another tragedy like the Arizona mass shootings that left six people dead and a congresswoman seriously wounded.

Cheney, an avid hunter, said he is "willing to listen to ideas" on how to better control the purchase and use of firearms.

"Whether or not there's some measure there in terms of limiting the size of the magazine that you can buy to go with a semiautomatic weapon — we’ve had that in place before. Maybe it’s appropriate to re-establish that kind of thing, but I think you do have to be careful obviously," Cheney told NBC's Jamie Gangel, national correspondent for "TODAY."

The friggin' CONSTITUTION has racist roots.

How is it that nothing that works in any other developed nation on the planet can ever work in America? British single-payer healthcare, Portugese drug legalization, Canadian gun control, Switzerland's organized militias, Spanish siestas.

Because we're just so different? They all put their pants on 1 leg at a time, too.

Bloomberg is an independent, Reagan is dead, Bush allowed the assault weapons ban to expire...

But as long as you are suggesting gun control must be bad becase a few republicans support it, lets take a closer look.

Scalia isn't the only R on your side. Lets pick some of the doozies, shall we? Louie Gohmert--your side. Virginia Fox--your side. Trent Franks--your side.

You have nothing to say.

45. I think you need
to understand that if a republican president announces to a republican congress that he wants to renew a piece of expiring legislation, it normally is pursued or at least considered by that republican congress.

But Bush didn't do that. He allowed it to expire without doing or saying anything.

57. That's exactly what Bush did, isn't it?
I'm pretty certain he said something to the effect that if Congress saw fit to put a renewed "Assault Weapons" Ban on his desk, he'd sign it into law. I rather suspect Congress remembered all too vividly the mid-terms of 1994.

Feel free to bitch about the Republican-dominated Congress at the time who let the AWB lapse, because that'd be accurate, but get your facts straight.

implied that gun control was a bad idea because Cheney recently supported limiting the sale of extra large magazines for pistols.

I merely responded by pointing out that Louie Gohmert and Michelle Bachmann agree with xdigger and the gun pusher I was responding to.

You didn't point out the association fallacy to the author of this thread, nor did you point it out to the person I was responding to. You pointed it out to me, because you disagree with my point of view.

54. i don't need to identify a logical fallacy
in order to destroy this ridiculous argument.

I merely need to point out that more republicans are associated with your position than are associated with mine. That short circuits the "Cheney supports a gun control measure, therefore gun control is evil" argument nicely. That's what I did. Then you butted in with your logical fallacies a day late and a dollar short.

You were dishonest in that you attempted to accuse me of committing the fallacy, when in fact one of your honchos is the one who actually did so.

He can afford anything he wants, or his benefactors will provide it. Somehow he doesn't trust ordinary citizens with firearms they handle every day. That speaks volumes about the heart of this issue.

And hunting has nothing to do with the 2nd Amendment. Guys like Cheney have a lot to do with it, though.

We need idiots like Cheney to properly control their firearms (like not pointing them in lawyers faces) so they don't make the other 99.99999% of the responsible gun owners look bad.

19. So the man who thinks that torture and summary execution are OK (the Bill of Rights be damned),
who thinks the right of habeus corpus can be suspended at will, that American citizens can be arrested and hauled off in the middle of the night and held for years without trial, who thinks that any level of surveillance of innocent citizens is OK as long as a good reason is given for it...

...might also support banning guns and magazines that have been in lawful common use for many decades.

Well, you can't say he's inconsistent. He believes all of the Bill of Rights can be suspended/violated at will.

2. Neocons, who can snow enough of the dimmer right wingers to get elected.

59. power hungry members of the ruling class are jealous of the power held by regular people and
of our ability to own firearms. If you plan to violate someone's rights you will also be afraid of their guns, so you might try to take them away before you start to violate their rights. Many people here would love to give the federal government total control of firearms and when Cheney is president he can have control of all the firearms in the country.
